WRESTLING NEWS

**Brock Lesnar did a very quick match with Kane on Saturday night’s WWE event at the United Center in Chicago with Lesnar winning with the F-5 in 35 seconds after blocking a chokeslam. The audience was furious with how fast the match as it had been promoted heavily for the show. The main event featured Roman Reigns defeating John Cena.

**Brock Lesnar is scheduled for another house show this Friday against The Miz in Minneapolis, Minnesota at the Target Center.

**Rey Mysterio suffered an injury to his arm during a tag match on Friday’s Northeast Wrestling card in Waterbury, Connecticut. The injury occurred during a match with Mysterio teaming with Flip Gordon against Joey Mercury and Caleb Konley. Mysterio completed the match, but the fear was that he could have torn his biceps. Mysterio is having the arm checked on and the exact nature of the injury is not yet known. Mysterio has several dates coming up with The Crash in two weeks and then with New Japan Pro Wrestling in Long Beach, California against Jushin Thunder Liger.

**The Manhattan Mayhem card on Saturday night had to be changed at the last minute due to travel issues that prevented Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian, and Scorpio Sky making it to the show. SoCal Uncensored had been scheduled for the main event Ultimate Mayhem Match and were replaced by Matt Taven, Vinny Marseglia, and TK O’Ryan teaming with Shane Taylor (who was already involved in the match) against The Young Bucks, Hangman Page, and Marty Scurll. This was also the first streaming event on the new Honor Club service and we received a bit of feedback from those that watched it. Some people noted some freezing issues along the way, but no one noted anything major. The VOD version of the show was available as of this morning to watch on the service, although one person noted to us that main event cut off before the end of the match on the VOD version. For those that signed up for the VIP tier of Honor Club, that will include this Friday’s 16th Anniversary pay-per-view.

**The in-ring injury to Eddie Edwards aired on this past Thursday’s episode of Impact Wrestling and has received a lot of attention. The injury took place at the end of an Edwards vs. Sami Callihan match as Callihan placed a chair overtop Edwards. Callihan swung a baseball bat and it was slid across the seat of the chair to hit Edwards full force in the face, leading to Edwards breaking several bones and was rushed to the hospital. TMZ covered the incident after it aired on television this week, including Callihan speaking about how awful he felt about it. One of the critics of the incident was Jim Cornette, who wrote:

OK, I just saw this for the first time– @TheEddieEdwards should have beat the shit out of this stupid fuck–he set it up shoddy, was careless with his shitty swing & they shouldn’t have been doing it to begin with. Who the fuck “trained” @TheSamiCallihan ? I’m fucking hot.

In responding to Cornette, Callihan upset a number of people by stating:

This hurts Jimmy…. I’ll just keep watching my bank account go up.

It led to the following response from Kassius Ohno / Chris Hero:

Really? Really? There is ZERO correlation between how much money you make & what happened in that ring. You should be embarrassed. ASHAMED.

Callihan has stated that he will be releasing a statement on the incident on Monday.

**Impact Wrestling posted their highest viewership of the year this past Thursday with 365,000 viewers on POP TV. The number is Impact’s highest since July 13th, 2017, which was an episode that averaged 374,000. It is hard to pinpoint what led to the surge in viewership, which was up 39% from last week’s viewership other than there was no Winter Olympics coverage they were up against this week, but that can only explain so much considering how high the number was.

**Ronda Rousey and her mother, Dr. AnnMaria DeMars, were inducted together into the International Sports Hall of Fame this weekend in Columbus, Ohio with both in attendance for their inductions. Rousey also received her sixth-degree black belt at the ceremony and her mother received her seventh-degree black belt. The 2018 Hall of Fame class also featured Bas Rutten.

**Tammy Sytch is currently being held in custody in Monmouth County in New Jersey over a series of incidents. TMZ reported that Sytch was issued a DUI charge on January 23rd and later involved in a car accident on February 2nd where she allegedly fled the scene and later found and issued another DUI charge. Sytch was arrested on two counts of being a fugitive from justice along with six counts of being in contempt of court after failing to appear in court for the prior two incidents in January and February.

**The Raw crew has a house show in Rockford, Illinois tonight at the BMO Harris Bank Center with John Cena vs. Roman Reigns headlining the show and The Bar vs. Finn Balor and Seth Rollins for the Raw tag titles.

**The SmackDown crew is in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, Randy Orton, Kevin Owens, and Sami Zayn all advertised.

**Monday’s episode of Raw takes place from the BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. John Cena is advertised for tomorrow’s Raw, although he isn’t figured into any Raw storylines with Fast Lane coming up next weekend. Brock Lesnar will not be on Monday’s show but is the scheduled for the following week’s episode from Detroit.

**The WWE stock closed at $38.19 on Friday.

MMA NEWS

**After battling an illness, long time UFC producer Bruce Connal passed away on Thursday at the age of 61. Mike Goldberg had mentioned last month during an appearance on The MMA Hour that Connal was in the hospital but was of the belief that he was on the road to recovery and speculated he may have had an aneurysm. Connal had been producing UFC events since UFC 17 in 1998 and had produced over 300 events for the company and was very popular among the UFC staff past and present. Bot the UFC and Bellator provided tributes on their broadcasts this weekend and was done in a very classy manner. The opening of the UFC 222 pay-per-view featured Joe Rogan voicing a tribute piece and it ended with Connal’s regular countdown for the crew and it was such a touching start to the show. Connal was a heavyweight within the broadcast industry with sports figures and networks paying tribute to him since the news of his passing. He worked at ESPN during their early days in 1979 and produced a wide variety of sports along with running his own production company.

**March is a light month for the UFC as they only have one more card this month. They will be in London, England at the O2 Arena on Saturday, March 17th with Fabricio Werdum facing Alexander Volkov in the heavyweight main event. The next major card is UFC 223 on Saturday, April 6th (WrestleMania weekend and will go head-to-head with NXT Takeover) with Tony Ferguson vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov for the interim (or actual) lightweight title and Rose Namajunas vs. Joanna Jedrzejczyk for the women’s strawweight title.
