POLLOCK’S 205 LIVE REPORT: Oney Lorcan wins the Six-Pack Challenge

John Pollock's review of 205 Live featuring a Six-Pack Challenge to determine the Cruiserweight title challenger at SummerSlam this Sunday.

The show began with comments from Drake Maverick reviewing his win over Mike Kanellis on last week’s episode. He said he hopes it’s the final time the audience sees him compete in the ring. Kanellis is welcome to remain in the Cruiserweight division and will not be biased against him.

Vic Joseph is calling the show with Nigel McGuinness and Aiden English.

HUMBERTO CARRILLO VS LINCE DORADO

Jessika Carr is the referee, who was also serving as an official on SmackDown on Tuesday night.

Dorado landed a springboard crossbody to the floor several minutes in. Dorado worked on Carrillo’s back returning to the ring.

They exchanged sit-out dropkicks as both were down on the mat. Dorado connected with a high cross that Carrillo kicked out from after Carrillo flipped off the turnbuckle and just stood there. Carrillo caught the Golden Rewind. Dorado adjusted and drove his knees into Carrillo’s chest.

Dorado hit a guillotine leg drop off the top onto the edge of the apron that didn’t look fun at all. He followed with a splash, which missed, Carrillo attempted an enzuigiri that didn’t connect.

Carrillo set up Dorado in the corner, was stopped in the corner and they fought on the turnbuckle. Dorado was seated on the rope and was dropkicked off and crashed to the floor. Carrillo followed with a tornillo dive over the top to the floor.

Carrillo tried to break the count and Dorado yanked him by the leg and led to both being counted out.

WINNER: Double count-out at 11:56

Carrillo took out Dorado and Gran Metalik with a tope con giro to the floor.

This match was all over the place. There were some impressive moments but also had sloppy elements and a finish that didn’t get over in the slightest. Despite some risky maneuver, like the leg drop off the top onto the edge of the apron, the audience was never engaged and killed the atmosphere. The finish felt off and ended on a down note.

Tony Nese wants to be Cruiserweight champion again and it starts tonight, and he will be champion again in five days at SummerSlam. He doesn’t know where he stands in this division if he doesn’t regain the title.

Ariya Daivari met with Lince Dorado backstage, he told Dorado he could be the breakout star of the Lucha House Party like when Seth Rollins left The Shield. Daivari tried to create problems with the group bringing up that Kalisto is in the six-pack challenge and Dorado isn’t. Gran Metalik walked in and Daivari took off.

All the participants cut promos ahead of the Six-Pack Challenge. The best was Akira Tozawa stating he knows what it’s like to lose the Cruiserweight title at SummerSlam and will show Drew Gulak what it’s like.

KALISTO VS TONY NESE VS JACK GALLAGHER VS AKIRA TOZAWA VS ARIYA DAIVARI VS ONEY LORCAN

Daivari bailed to the floor and was hit with a suicide dive from Tozawa. Daivari was returned to the ring and took chops from the others and a straight right form Tozawa. Daivari tried a high cross to everyone, they all moved, and he crashed.

Nese landed on his feet from a monkey flip by Kalisto and had a nice sequence with Kalisto and Tozawa.

Lorcan dove to the floor on Tozawa, Gallagher, and Daivari followed by Nese with a Fosbury Flop. Gallagher leaped off the top with the umbrella to the floor. Kalisto set up in the ring was caught and dumped onto the announcer’s desk.

Lorcan caught Daivari with an uppercut off the turnbuckle and a blockbuster for a two-count. There was a triple submission spot involving Lorcan, Gallagher, Tozawa, and Nese that was broken by Daivari.

Nese hit the sunset driver (Dude Buster) on Lorcan and then powerbombed Tozawa on top of Lorcan.

Tozawa jumped off Gallagher’s back to hit a cannonball on Nese in the tree of woe. Daivari came off with a splash and the six men were down.

Daivari countered Lorcan’s half-and-half suplex and hit the hammerlock lariat. Each took turns with their big spots, including Nese with a German suplex sending Gallagher into the corner and hit the Running Nese, but Lorcan came from behind and hit Nese with the half-and-half and pinned him.

WINNER: Oney Lorcan at 11:34

Drew Gulak walked out and held the Cruiserweight title up for the closing shot ahead of their title match at SummerSlam on Sunday.

FINAL THOUGHTS

The Six-Pack Challenge was a very good match with lots of cool multi-man sequences and spots and enough time without it feeling rushed. The audience was into some of their stuff and in a different setting, this would have been off the charts with a hot crowd.

The Carrillo vs. Dorado match had some good moments but overall the crowd killed it and the finish sucked. If they had a rematch, I feel they would do much better the next time as some spots were off.

The other storyline being pushed is Ariya Daivari trying to get into Lince Dorado’s head and break up the Lucha House Party.
