The troubles of former UFC champion BJ Penn continue with the Hall of Famer involved in a physical altercation at a nightclub in Hawaii.
TMZ produced clips involving Penn and an unnamed individual fighting outside of the Lava Shack nightclub in Pahoa, Hawaii.
The first clip features Penn and the individual fighting outside the club with Penn getting dropped by a right hand.
In the second clip, Penn appears to have the man mounted from the back while attacking him with strikes with onlookers surrounding the two.
MMA Fighting confirmed the incident with the Hawaii Police Department, who were called to the scene. There was minimal information provided by witnesses and the police did not make any arrests.
Gary Levitt, a friend of Penn’s, spoke to Steven Marrocco of MMA Junkie and stated that Penn did not start the fight and responded after taking several punches. The unidentified man told TMZ that he was hit by a “cheap shot” from Penn.
This is the latest incident involving the former welterweight and lightweight champion. He was allegedly involved in a fight outside of a nightclub in Hawaii this past June, although Penn was not arrested and a warrant was not issued.
This past April, it was revealed that an investigation was ongoing regarding an alleged incident where Penn was accused of threatening a taro farmer with a machete, which Penn’s representatives denied. The incident was said to have occurred in January of 2018 and Penn was facing a Class C felony charge of first-degree terroristic threatening.
Last year, Shealen Uaiwa filed a restraining order against the fighter, which was granted. She accused Penn of emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. Uaiwa is the mother of Penn’s children and was granted the restraining order, which runs through October 2021. The former couple is involved in a custody battle for the children.
Penn is 40-years old and has not won a fight since November 2010. He has lost his last five fights and was granted one more by UFC president Dana White. The promotion was working towards a fight between Penn and Nik Lentz, although no date had been made official.
