Progress World Championship
WALTER vs. David Starr
For a singles match to follow a Rumble it has to be considered a real main event, and that’s how this match was anticipated given the history between these two across multiple companies and big matches. They were having a great match when WALTER fell back on his usual tactic of involving the championship belt in order to get disqualified. After a ref bump, Starr hit a belt shot followed by a brainbuster for the visionary pinfall.
At this point, Eddie Dennis came out and cashed in the championship contract he had won at Wembley last September against Mark Andrews. A masked man hit Starr with a chair before revealing himself to be…Mark bloody Andrews. Dennis pinned Starr to win the Progress World title. Dennis attempted a heel promo while large sections of the audience cheered him on. This finish was terrible and soured what had been a great show up until this point.
