Matt Taven will be remaining with Ring of Honor following his loss on Friday’s pay-per-view where he dropped the ROH title to Rush.

At Saturday’s television taping at Sam’s Town Live in Las Vegas, Taven addressed the crowd confirming he was remaining with the promotion after the news was public that his contract was about to expire.

Taven made the announcement alongside Vincent Marseglia and TK O’Ryan of The Kingdom and appears to signal a babyface turn for Taven, who shook hands with Rush after losing the title at Death Before Dishonor on Friday.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported this past week that ROH had made a huge offer for Taven to stay.

Taven has worked consistently for ROH since 2012 and won their Top Prospect tournament in 2013 that also featured ACH, Hangman Page, Silas Young, Tadarius Thomas, and Mike Sydal.

Taven began to have success while teaming with Mike Bennett in 2014 winning the IWGP tag titles in April 2015 and the ROH tag titles in September of that year.

Taven suffered a terrible knee injury at Final Battle 2015 where the two lost the titles to War Machine and was out until September 2016. During his time away, Bennett left the company with wife Maria Kanellis for Impact Wrestling. When Taven returned, he took over The Kingdom and added members Vinny Marseglia and TK O’Ryan.

Through ROH’s relationship with CMLL, Taven got to become a regular for the group is a top spot. This included headlining the promotion’s 85th-anniversary show in September 2018 where Taven teamed with Volador Jr. and had their heads shaved by Rush and Barbaro Cavernario.

Taven received his biggest push to date this year when he won the ROH title in a three-way ladder match with Jay Lethal and Marty Scurll at the G1 Supercard at Madison Square Garden during WrestleMania weekend.
