It’s John Pollock here, I will be updating throughout the night with quick notes from the show and then we will have a big review on Rewind-A-Dynamite later tonight.
Braden Herrington and Davie Portman will have upNXT posted late tonight, as well.
-The commentary team is Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone, and Excalibur
-The audience was red-hot as Cody and Brandi Rhodes entered for the opening match against Sammy Guevera
Cody defeated Sammy Guevara in 11:52
They went into lots of big near falls that the audience went crazy for. Guevara pulled Brandi in front as a shield when Cody dove to the floor and took her out. Cody hit the Disaster Kick after Brandi hit Guevera with her shoe and Guevara kicked out. It ended with Guevara landing on Cody’s knees on a shooting star press attempt and Cody used a cradle for the cover.
-Tony Schiavone entered the ring and hugged Cody, Guevara offered his hand and Cody shook his hand – even though Guevara had just used his wife as a shield. It was a ploy for Chris Jericho to jump and attack Cody from behind. It ended with Jericho powerbombing Cody on two chairs on the floor.
-MJF cut a promo on the crowd and ran down Brandon Cutler
MJF defeated Brandon Cuter in 2:37
Cutler landed a suicide dive but started selling his knee after the dive. MJF struck from out of the corner and applied the Salt of the Earth (Fujiwara armbar) for the quick submission.
-Chris Van Vliet interviewed Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes, who plugged the Reboot movie and were confronted by Angelico & Jack Evans. Private Party appeared and gave drinks to Smith and Mewes.
-SCU was interviewed by Schiavone, the Lucha Bros. came out and it escalated into a pull-apart as they were promoting the AEW tag title tournament that begins next week.
PAC defeated Hangman Page in 13:01
Both looked really good in the match but it was hurt with a commercial break in the middle. Page hit a moonsault off the top to the floor, then went for the Buckshot Lariat and PAC avoided it. With Earl Hebner’s back turned, PAC hit a low blow and then came off the top with the Black Arrow to the back. PAC applied the Brutalizer and got the submission win.
Riho pinned Nyla Rose in 13:26 to become the AEW women’s champion
The story was evident to the crowd with the size discrepancy. Once they got into the final minutes, it became a hot match and the audience was behind Riho. They had a mess-up when Riho tried to counter a powerbomb with a back body drop, which Rose fell over on. Riho played a great underdog, hit a shining wizard from behind and running knees for the win. The audience erupted for the end.
-Michael Nakazawa tried to interview Riho, he was attacked by Rose and laid out with a Liger Bomb. Kenny Omega came to the aid of Riho and shoved Rose on the apron. Omega was wearing a ONE Championship shirt.
Chris Jericho, Santana & Ortiz over Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks
Omega was taken out of the match when Jon Moxley appeared and they fought through the crowd and into the VIP area. Moxley put Omega through a glass table with the Death Rider.
Nick Jackson was the star of the match and had an unreal sequence after receiving a hot tag. The Bucks set up for the BME but Jericho caught Nick with a codebreaker in mid-air. They took control and threw Matt into the Judas Effect and Jericho pinned him.
The post-match saw a beatdown until Cody ran in to assist. He was followed by Sammy Guevara and Dustin Rhodes, who received a massive reception.
Jake Hager (the former Jack Swagger) debuted and took out Dustin and The Bucks, including a gutwrench powerbomb to Dustin through a table. Jericho, Santana, Ortiz, Guevara, and Hager stood tall to end the first broadcast.
