One of the big fights the UFC has remaining on the 2019 calendar is off with the news that Brian Ortega will be unable to fight Chan Sung Jung.

The news was initially reported by ESPN’s Ariel Helwani and later confirmed by the featherweight after posting the following:

Ortega and Jung were set to main event the UFC’s final card of the year on December 21st in Busan, South Korea. Helwani added in his reporting that the frontrunner to take Ortega’s spot is Frankie Edgar. The former lightweight champion was already scheduled to fight Cory Sandhagen on January 25th in Raleigh, North Carolina in Edgar’s debut at bantamweight.

If Edgar takes the fight against Jung, it would be contested at 145 pounds with Edgar optimistic he could still turn around and fight Sandhagen one month later, according to the report from ESPN.

Jung, 32, last fought in June where he stopped Renato Moicano in 58 seconds while Ortega hasn’t fought since his loss to featherweight champion Max Holloway at UFC 231 in December 2018.
