NWA Power Report: Ep. 10 “The Villain Effect”

The season two premiere featured the formation of a top faction, the participants for the Television title tournament, Marty Scurll speaks, a No DQ match & more.

The show began with a recap of Marty Scurll’s appearance at Into the Fire.

The episode kicked off with Joe Galli and Stu Bennett teeing up the show.

David Marquez interviewed the new NWA National champion Aron Stevens at the podium. Stevens was accompanied by The Question Mark and received a lot of heat. He has received a third-degree black belt in Mongrovian karate. He is at a different level than past champions like Ric Flair, Jack Brisco, and Dick the Bruiser. He is now ‘Shooter’ Stevens, is the ‘third-degree National champion’ and they want all the belts including the tag belts and the Television belt for Question Mark.

Colt Cabana confronted Stevens, he said without The Question Mark he would never be a champion and won because of him. Stevens has no interest in Cabana and walked out.

Thunder Rosa brought out Melina and Ashley Vox jumped Rosa ringside. They were about to attack Vox when ODB and Allysin Kay ran out to save Vox. After the break, Melina and Rosa confronted Marti Belle not showing up to save them even though Belle was told not to.

There an ad promoting their return to Atlanta for January 24-26th including the pay-per-view.

Galli and Bennett explained that the matches in the Television title match tournament all have time limits of 6 minutes and 5 seconds.

SAL RINAURO VS CW ANDERSON VS ZICKY DICE IN THE TELEVISION TITLE TOURNAMENT

The winner of this match will be officially added into the official tournament.

Anderson hit Rinauro with a spinebuster, Dice threw Anderson to the corner and hit Rinauro with the Snake, Rattle and Roll (spinning neckbreaker) to win.

WINNER: Zicky Dice at 2:02

Dice spoke to Marquez and doesn’t need luck to become the next NWA Television champion. He was chased off by The Dawsons.

They complained about helping The Wild Cards and getting nothing in return.

They ran Marty Scurll’s interview from Saturday. He’ll go wherever he wants and do whatever he pleases. He started out with Nick Aldis and Stu Bennett, he gave Aldis the fight of his life at the Crockett Cup show and knows he can beat Aldis and challenged him for a match.

Homicide joined Galli and Bennett and wouldn’t give an update on Homicide.

THE ROCK ‘N ROLL EXPRESS VS ZACH MOSLEY & SEAN SIMS

RNR got a huge reaction coming out from the fans at GPB Studios.

Mosley and Sims were Irish whipped into each other and dual roll ups by the RNR won it.

WINNERS: The Rock ‘N’ Roll Express in 0:44

They spoke to Galli, put over tag teams from the NWA’s past and becoming nine-time champions. Morton said Aldis still has a long way to go before he’s compared to Ric Flair or Harley Race.

The Dawsons returned and won’t leave until they expose the truth and brawled with The Wild Cards.

THE DAWSONS VS THE WILD CARDS

The Wild Card stomped Zane Dawson’s left hand. Latimer bit the injured hand as Dave ran in to try and stop them.

Isaacs hoisted him for a DVD into a powerbomb from Latimer to pin Zane.

WINNERS: The Wild Cards at 3:01

They continued to stomp Zane’s hand after winning.

Latimer called The Dawsons lying and then cut a promo on Santa being a liar, as well. Jocephus walked out dressed as Santa handing out presents.

Kyle Durden interviews James Storm after the loss at Into the Fire. He never gave up and will climb back to the top of the mountain and promised revenge.

They revealed the participants in the Television title tournament – Ricky Starks, Caleb Konley, Colt Cabana, Trevor Murdoch, Tom Latimer, The Question Mark (huge reaction), Eddie Kingston, Tim Storm, The Dawsons, and Nick Aldis.

Marquez introduced Nikita Koloff as a former Television champion to draw the first names to meet in the tournament next week.

*Colt Cabana vs. The Question Mark

Aldis explained he has no challengers left and isn’t just here to make money but make history and will win two titles. Aldis put over Ricky Starks and could make it all the way to the finals to lose to him.

He was asked about Scurll and called him the hottest free agent and one of his good friends while dismissing Ricky Morton’s comments from earlier. He said Kamille is no longer his insurance policy.

Bennett’s interview with Scurll included Scurll saying he wants people to keep guessing where he is going and got a taste of the NWA at the Crockett Cup show. He must do different things to stand out. He has never been the world champion and wants the title.

Eli Drake had a raspy voice from the attack by Mr. Anderson after driving a chair into his throat. He wasn’t included in the tournament and Anderson is a speed bump and is going ahead with the No Disqualification match.

MR. ANDERSON VS ELI DRAKE IN A NO DISQUALIFICATION MATCH

Tim Storm joined Galli and Bennett on commentary.

The two fought into the stands as the crowd chanted for Drake. Anderson shut a door onto Drake, and he fell down the steps.

Back in the ring, Anderson brought a chair in and unfolded. He tried to drive Drake onto it with a Mic Check and Drake stopped it. Drake took the chair but tossed it away, hit the Gravy Train and won.

WINNER: Eli Drake at 6:59

Aldis walked out to confront Tim Storm on commentary. They argued but it wasn’t audible. Storm went into the ring and challenged Aldis to fight and The Wild Cards attacked Storm from behind while Aldis watched.

Kamille came out and got into Aldis’ face and shoved him before turning around and hitting Storm with a spear. Kamille started kissing Latimer and the four embraced as the new alliance consisting of Aldis, The Wild Cards, and Kamille.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I thought this was one of their better episodes and a great re-launch with the beginning of the second season.

Nick Aldis was excellent throughout this show with his promos and the closing angle with his own faction taking form and the swerve involving Kamille while also reintegrating Storm into that top picture, even though he cannot challenge Aldis for the title.

They set up a lot of directions with the focus being the Television title tournament that begins next week. I think it’s a bonus that it’s a six-episode season with a clear end point on January 24th where these current stories should peak.

Drake and Anderson had an entertaining brawl that the audience loved because it was a rare brawl inside the studio, and they went all over before the ending in the ring.

It’s evident just how important the crowd is for this product as they are into all the characters and add a lot of enthusiasm to the angles and matches. Aron Stevens is one that can sink, or swim based on his response level and the crowd really gets into his segments.

The main feature involved Marty Scurll indicating he wants to go after the NWA title, but nothing was announced for the pay-per-view.

Next week:
*Ricky Starks vs. Eddie Kingston in the Television title tournament
*Colt Cabana vs. The Question Mark in the Television title tournament
*Allysin Kay, Ashley Vox & ODB vs. Melina, Thunder Rosa & Marti Belle
