During the February 26th episode of NXT on the USA Network, NXT GM William Regal announced that at NXT TakeOver: Tampa on April 4th, there will be a Ladder match to determine the #1 contender to the NXT Women’s Championship. Regal stated that starting next week, there will be qualifying matches to fill the spots in the match and come TakeOver: Tampa, a new #1 contender will be determined.

The current NXT Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley is defending her title against Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 36.
The last time there was a women’s Ladder match in NXT, Io Shirai and Mia Yim competed in the match to determine which one of their teams would gain the advantage in WarGames.
