FRANKIE KAZARIAN & SCORPIO SKY VS DARK ORDER
Dark Order double-teamed Sky with Stu Grayson sending him off the shoulders into a sit-out powerbomb from Evil Uno. Kazarian came in and landed a double clothesline after being shot toward Dark Order. Evil Uno nailed Sky from behind with a clothesline and Grayson covered Sky.
WINNERS: Dark Order at 9:23
Dark Order attacked SCU and Colt Cabana ran out to assist SCU. Cabana and Grayson traded blows to a big reaction until Dark Order joined in and beat Cabana down. The arena chanted for Cabana and then a hooded figure walked out, it was Christopher Daniels, but he attacked Dark Order and hit Angel’s Wings.
The tag match was a good match for the pre-show and nothing wrong with it. The audience got a bonus with the Cabana appearance and he was very popular.
Jim Ross and Tony Schiavone joined Excalibur for the pay-per-view portion.
Dezirae Schalice sang the national anthem at the beginning of the show.
DUSTIN RHODES VS JAKE HAGER
Rhodes came out with QT Marshall, who exited to the back. Rhodes’ shirt read ‘I’m Here to Fight Jericho’s Bitch’. The audience chanted ‘Jericho’s bitch’ early in the match.
Hager made out with his wife Catalina in the front row.
They went into the crowd with Rhodes attacking Hager’s hand and ran the left arm into the post. Hager came back and took his head off with a clothesline on the floor.
Catalina gave instruction to Hager, Rhodes walked up to her and forced a kiss on her, which is such a dated and awful spot to be doing now.
Hager slammed Rhodes on the mat and hit a Vader Bomb for a two-count. Hager licked Rhodes in the corner ala Tyson Fury with Deontay Wilder and Schiavone made a veiled reference to last weekend’s fight. Rhodes got a near fall after kicking him low and hitting a Destroyer. Aubrey Edwards conveniently missed the low kick.
Rhodes attempted an armbar that was countered into an ankle lock by Hager, which Rhodes broke free from. Edwards’ back was turned, and Hager hit the low knee and applied an arm-triangle and Edwards called for the bell.
WINNER: Jake Hager at 14:43
The submission is the one he has won two fights in Bellator with. Rhodes worked in the match and helped the match a lot. I wouldn’t say it reached the next gear that most were hoping for. Rhodes is a great babyface, but I hated the spot with Catalina, and it feels tone-deaf in the modern era.
Dan Lambert is sitting in the front row.
DARBY ALLIN VS SAMMY GUEVARA
The beginning minutes were insane as Guevara was draped on the guardrail, Allin went for a dive and caught his feet on the rope and nearly crashed heads with Guevara. Guevara took the skateboard and whipped it at Allin’s head on the floor.
Allin was placed on a table on the floor and Guevara put him through with a 630-splash. Allin got into the ring as the bell rang and Guevara ran at him with a knee strike. Guevara a one-man Spanish Fly from the top for a near fall.
Guevara removed the turnbuckle padding but Allin catapulted Guevara into the buckle, hit the rotating stunner and Coffin Drop to win the match.
WINNER: Darby Allin in 4:58
This was nonstop action but it was never too much to keep up with and had several ‘big’ moments that didn’t allow the audience to come down once. Allin felt like a superstar to the live crowd and Guevara was tremendous in this match.
KENNY OMEGA & HANGMAN PAGE VS THE YOUNG BUCKS FOR THE AEW TAG TITLES
Omega’s right shoulder was significantly taped up. They credited Pac with the injury following the Ironman match.
Omega and Nick Jackson started and shook hands. Moments later, Matt offered his hand and Page spit in his face.
Omega and Page started to work the lower back of Matt as the announcers brought up Matt’s past back issues. Page was going to attack Matt in the timekeeper’s area and Omega rolled Matt back into the ring.
Page connected with the moonsault to the floor on both Matt and Nick while landing on his feet.
Omega and Page double-teamed Matt and Omega hoisted Matt into a suplex by Page with Matt coming down on a rough-looking angle. Nick fought back with a series of kicks, was flipped onto the stage and came back with a sunset flip into a Destroyer on Page re-entering the ring.
Page did the Marty Scurll setup and applied the chicken wing on Matt, who reversed out of it and Nick landed a 450 splash to Page.
Page did the Bandido spot where he hit the fallaway slam/moonsault off the top on Nick for a two-count. The audience was on their feet by this point.
Omega landed V-Triggers on both, two snap dragons and a Tiger Driver ’98 for a near fall on Nick. Nick came back with a reverse ‘rana to Omega off the turnbuckle while Matt hit a series of Northern Lights suplexes to Page on the ramp.
The Bucks hit Page with an Indie Taker on the ramp and the audience booed. They proceeded to attack Omega with superkicks and a double-team Kamigoye, which Omega kicked out from one at. Matt stomped the injured shoulder and the audience was booing him.
They set Omega up for the Meltzer Driver when Page returned and took Nick off the apron and put him through a table. They hit the combination V-Trigger/Buckshot lariat and Matt kicked out.
Omega could not hit the One-Winged Angel on Matt due to his shoulder, so Page came in and hit Matt with the One-Winged Angel that Nick made the save on. Page hit a Buckshot Lariat to Nick on the stage and then another to Matt in the ring for the win.
WINNERS: Kenny Omega & Hangman Page at 30:05 to retain the AEW tag titles
This was stellar and completes an unbelievable 11-day stretch of matches from Kenny Omega.
NYLA ROSE VS KRIS STATLANDER FOR THE AEW WOMEN’S TITLE
It was Rose in control at the start of the match. Statlander cut her off with a superkick but they were battling with the crowd after the match they had to follow.
Statlander hit a pair of suicide dives as Ross was adamant she had to return Rose to the ring to win the title.
Statlander was draped on the top rope but did a hand stand and walked to the center to blow a kiss at Rose, who was on the top turnbuckle. Statlander came off the ropes and was hit with a Beast Bomb and kicked out.
Statlander attempted a superplex and it was a mess as she slipped. In the opposite corner, Rose stopped a top rope huracanrana and hit a Beast Bomb off it for the win.
WINNER: Nyla Rose in 12:46 to retain the AEW women’s title
This was very rough in the final minutes with a bunch of scary moments on the turnbuckle from each. The audience was not into the match following the previous tag and this was underwhelming.
CODY VS MJF
Cody came out to a live performance from Downstait along with his entourage of Arn Anderson, Brandi, Dustin, Stephen Amell among others. Arn did the throat slash in MJF’s direction.
MJF repeatedly rolled to the floor and threw a beer at a fan. Cody hit a Cody cutter for a one-count in the first few minutes. MJF stomped the foot as they explained Cody has a broken toe from the moonsault off the steel cage.
Brandi tossed a beer into Wardlow’s face and Cody hit a suicide dive on him. After MJF snapped Cody’s arm on the top rope, Wardlow ran the shoulder into the post allowing MJF to attack it. He weakened the arm and went for the Salt of the Earth (Fujiwara armbar) and then tied up both arms and the leg ala Zack Sabre Jr. Cody bit the bottom rope for the break.
MJF removed the boot and stepped on the broken toe and bit it. Cody took MJF to the top and hit an inverted superplex.
On the floor, MJF is busted open with a significant amount of blood.
Brandi ran off the apron and was caught by Wardlow, Cody confronted him as Arn grabbed Brandi. Cody went for a bicycle kick that missed Wardlow and he nailed Arn.
Cody and MJF engaged in a striking exchange with Cody doing the flip, flop, and fly that led to a chant of ‘Dusty’. MJF came back with the Double Cross and Cody kicked out. Behind the referee’s back, Cody kicked MJF low and hit Din’s Fire (vertebreaker) and MJF kicked out.
Cody grabbed the weightlifting belt and Paul Turner allowed him to whip MJF with it. MJF got on his knees crying for forgiveness and hugged Cody before spitting in his face. Cody snapped and hit two Cross Rhodes, he went for a third with MJF landing a knee and nailing Cody with the ring and falling on top to win the match.
WINNER: MJF at 24:37
This was a very strong performance from each and the best match I’ve seen from MJF. This was designed to be the ‘epic’ Cody pay-per-view match and I wouldn’t say it reach the highest level but was a well-thought out match with many twists and turns and lots of stories come out of it.
Cody left the ring apologizing to the crowd.
ORANGE CASSIDY VS PAC
Before they locked up, the fans chanted ‘Holy shit’. They traded weak kicks and then Pac shoved him down. Cassidy did some impressive counters and rolled him up for a two-count before they went to the floor and Cassidy was sent into the barricade and drilled his head into the post.
Pac beat him down and hit an Avalanche brainbuster but lifted Cassidy. Pac set up for the Black Arrow, but Cassidy rolled away twice. Pac blocked him from exiting the ring, wasn’t paying attention as Cassidy did a kip-up and dive to the floor as he fired up onto Pac as the audience went nuts. Cassidy hit a Stundog Millionaire but was crotched on top.
Cassidy countered a slam into a swinging DDT and a diving DDT off the top and this time it was Pac rolling to the floor.
Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix ran down and attacked the Best Friends. Pac capitalized and snapped Cassidy’s arm and applied the Brutalizer for the submission.
WINNER: PAC at 13:01
This was a lot of fun and Cassidy is an incredible talent. This also showcased Pac’s character to a tee and they gelled effectively and it got over huge inside the building.
There was a promo for AEW’s two-ring ‘Blood and Guts’ match for the episode of Dynamite from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on March 25th and will be their version of War Games.
CHRIS JERICHO VS JON MOXLEY FOR THE AEW TITLE
The ‘Inner Circle Choir’ led by Meredith Bell played Jericho’s theme song before the actual song played. Jericho walked out with Santana & Ortiz while Moxley made his entrance entering the building from the street.
They fought through the crowd and Moxley bit the stitches of Jericho. Jericho sent him through the timekeeper’s table with a powerbomb as Moxley began bleeding from the right side of his face. Jericho went after the eye. Jericho rang the bell and declared himself the winner. This led to a long period of Jericho in control.
Jericho went for the Lion Tamer and it was countered by Moxley incorporating his lessons from Randy Couture.
Ortiz hit Moxley with the mad ball and Jericho hit the Lionsault for a two-count. Moxley comes back with his own Boston Crab. Jake Hager ran down and Moxley released it. This led to Jericho applying the Walls of Jericho and Moxley got to the rope. Jericho pushed Aubrey Edwards to try and get disqualified, but she wouldn’t do it.
Hager struck Moxley and Edwards ejected Hager, Ortiz & Santana to a massive pop. Sammy Guevara ran in and hit Moxley with the AEW title.
Jericho gouged the good eye and Moxley couldn’t see. Jericho attacked the eye, Moxley ducked the Judas Effect and hit the Paradigm Shift.
Moxley removed the eyepatch and his eye is healed. He hit a big Paradigm Shift and pinned Jericho.
WINNER: Jon Moxley at 22:18 to win the AEW title
Moxley cut a promo thanking the fans for making AEW what it is and his gratitude for the AEW family and left through the crowd.
