** In December of 2019, former NXT Tag Team Champions The Ascension (Konnor & Viktor) were released from WWE. Several months after their release, both Konnor, now going by “Big Kon” and Viktor are booked for two WrestleMania weekend independent shows in Tampa, Florida. Konnor recently joined The Wrestling INC Daily podcast to chat about his run in WWE. He revealed that in February of 2020, he and Viktor’s contracts with WWE were set to expire. There were taken off the road for almost a year and were at home waiting to either be used or let go from the company.

“We only had two more months left. We literally had two more months left. We had been sitting at home for almost nine months. They had literally taken us off the road and we literally almost sat there throughout the last portion of our contract, and it just was one of those things where it was nice to be honest with you, and there was some more backstory to it as to why things kinda went the way that it did.

Basically, I had a discussion with one of the gentlemen there. They were talking about possibly making some things happen and my only question to them was why. There was really no point. There was nothing going on for us. We were clearly there to do one thing and that was to be quote unquote enhancement talent, and that’s just the reality of it. So, you just kind of take a step back and you’re just like, ‘Man this isn’t why I got into this business.’”

Konnor spoke about the difference in pay between NXT and the main roster. He did make mention that things may have changed seeing as how its been a while since he’s been in NXT but from his experience, the bump in pay from NXT to either RAW and/or SmackDown was vastly different.

“Oh it’s pretty good. It can be really good. It’s life-changing money, and I don’t even know what the NXT pay scale is anymore because its been five, six years since I’ve even been down there and I’m not one of those guys that likes to go around being like, ‘Hey, what are you making?’ Or… I’m not nosy. I don’t really care about people’s personal issues other than their well being. It’s like, ‘Hey dude, you OK?’ But I’m never like, ‘Hey man, how was your paycheck this week?’ But to transition from that NXT roster to the main roster, you’re talking big money, and with big money comes different attitudes and it’s a big deal. It can be a very big deal. When you’re one of the top guys — guys like Roman, guys that were there previously like Cena and Batista. I mean, you’re talking big money for these guys but there’s also a lot of sacrifice put into it too because those guys never go home to see their families, because they’re out promoting, they’re out doing signings, anything they can do, so…”

Viktor and Konnor are free to sign wherever they choose. As of the podcast, that’s not something that excites Konnor. He stated that he’s been answering to someone professionally for the past ten years and for now, he just wants to enjoy the ride and do his own thing and he relayed that message to Viktor.

“So, originally, Vik and I — we’re just taking it how it is right now, as far as just trying to enjoy it. For me, personally, I told Vik kinda where my head was at and I was just like, ‘I don’t wanna answer to nobody. I’ve been answering to people for ten years,’ and it’s kinda nice to just do your own thing. It’s nice to be able to not have to do something you don’t wanna do, and so right now, I’m just kind of enjoying the moment, but as far as offers and things like that, there’s been some pretty cool things that [have] been possibly going on. Of course, you can’t really discuss that because that’s not gonna be no fun. But we’re still gonna do indies, we’re still gonna go out there and do signings and things like that, but we’ve got some pretty cool things that have opened up and we haven’t mentioned it. If we do anything, we want it to be a surprise. We’re just stoked to be honest with you with everything. We will be back to TV. I can promise you that. I’m just not gonna say with who, but it’s gonna be great man. It’s gonna be awesome because we’re going back to our old ways. We’re gonna be able to be us again and it’s gonna be awesome, no doubt about it.”

** STARDOM has cancelled their March 20-22 shows due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

** Matt Hardy joined Busted Open Radio with David LaGreca and Tommy Dreamer. Hardy spoke about his ‘Free The Delete’ series and how well the reception has been to that. He made sure to credit Reby Hardy for handling the production side of things and says he couldn’t do any of that without her help.

“And one thing that I do have to say is that this whole Free The Delete, it really has gained this crazy cult following, and I couldn’t have done it without my wife. She is absolutely incredible when it comes to shooting and her mind as far as putting together cinematic scenes and her editing is just off the charts and she has such a great taste in how to put a certain musical composition with a certain scene, and you’ll see that more than any other time in the episode that airs today at noon. But, one thing about her too is she’s very tough, she’s very aggressive and it’s always good whenever I shoot ideas at her, she’s always good at modifying them or giving me a different idea outside of wrestling and [we’re] really good. We are very good at creating a compilation together so, I have to commend her on that. I couldn’t have done this without her. She is very tough to work for. She’s very aggressive. I know Dave [LaGreca] knows her very well. She’s actually probably more demanding than Vince McMahon is in some ways when it comes to shooting stuff so, she’s a tough boss.”

Matt also spoke about his brother Jeff Hardy who made his return to WWE programming on WWE Backstage on FS1 and announced that he’s medically cleared to return to the ring. Matt said it’s good to see Jeff back and looking refreshed.

“First and foremost, I wanted to hit on Jeff. It was great to see that last night and just how healthy and refreshed he looks and like, the conversations I’ve had with him, he’s been very different and its been very good, and I know he had a lot of stress going on, especially the situation with our dad who was in real bad health and I wasn’t really working on the road at that time and Jeff really was there with him everyday, working, trying to help him rehabilitate and get better and he did but I know it was a lot on Jeff so, I’m glad Jeff finally took some time to himself and took care of Jeff and I’m very excited for him to be back and I hope he does great in everything he does.”

** According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Matt Hardy was pulled from his signing appearance at ‘The Big Event’ on Saturday in New York. Promoters for that show have been told that if they are booking WWE talent, AEW talent cannot be booked. Hardy was booked for the signing while he was still with WWE. Matt Hardy noted on Twitter that he is still appearing at ‘The Big Event’. AEW Co-Executive Vice President Nick Jackson and his wife are awaiting the birth of their third child. Following Revolution, Fightful Select reported that Kenny Omega suffered a hand injury during the show and Dave Meltzer followed up on that report and stated that Omega has a broken pinky finger.

** TV Insider chatted with AEW Women’s World Champion Nyla Rose. When Nyla won the AEW Women’s Title from Riho, it was not mentioned that she’s a transgender woman and she’s glad that a big deal was not made of it.

“For me, it has been welcoming that they don’t make it a spectacle. They don’t make it a check mark. It’s one of those things that is there. Everyone knows about it, but nobody talks about it. That’s not a matter of us wanting to be hush-hush or hide this. They’re not making it a thing because it shouldn’t be a thing. You are a person and a performer first. That’s what I love so much and makes me feel so proud to be part of this company because they are helping normalize these ideals. We don’t even have a sense or consensus of how many trans people there are because so many people are afraid to speak out and speak up and live so openly. That’s because there is such a stigma of what being trans is. With representation on weekly television and with AEW being the company that it is on the scale that it is, with TNT and the scale they are on, they see me as a person. They see me as someone going out there and doing their job. The transness being secondary or even third to anything else. That is a beautiful statement. It shouldn’t matter and doesn’t. Hopefully, we can get to the point where people stop making it be the front runner.”

** During the pre-WWE Backstage Q&A session, Jeff Hardy learned via a tweet that WWE owns the rights to the “No More Words” theme song and Jeff pleaded with WWE to let him use the theme.

“Yes! Oh my God, yes! That would be the best thing ever and as far as motivating me, it would change my wrestling career. I’ve been dying to get that song back and now that I see this, and if it’s truth to it then WWE — there’s no reason why they shouldn’t do that so please WWE, let me come out to No More Words.”

** Big Show chatted with Corey Graves for the majority of the latest After The Bell podcast. Big Show expressed that he thinks the female athletes of WWE have more hunger than the men on the roster and explained his reasoning for thinking that:

“And that’s why you’ve seen such an amazing transformation of our women’s division because you look at the top talent we have in our women’s division — you have Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch and Bayley and Sasha and these girls just went out and changed the dynamic of women’s wrestling, and then what do you get? You get all these girls to come in behind them, and see, ‘Ok, this is the opportunity. I want this opportunity’ and the girls are more aggressive backstage in the locker room for time for having good matches, having quality matches. I see that hunger that I don’t see in the guys sometimes. That’s where the dynamic has shifted. Maybe that’ll explain a little about the difference between hungry and being pushed and driven, because your top girls, your Charlotte, your Becky, all your girls up top, they’re not giving up their spot. They’re not giving it up. If you want it, you got to come take it and it’s gonna take more than one or two good matches to get their spot. You’re gonna have to prove yourself, and I think that changes the whole division because that dynamic becomes, ‘We all have to grow together and everybody’s gonna grow.’”

Show reflected on his WrestleMania 21 Sumo match against Akebono. Big Show stated that Vince McMahon was angry at him because he outweighed Akebono by 40 bounds and had a laugh with Corey Graves about the interaction between himself and Vince.

“There’s a lot of things you can poke fun at, like me at WrestleMania fighting Akebono when I had 40 yards of silk wrapped up my ass. My big ass is hanging out and they brought in Akebono who’s supposed to be this 500-and-something pound guy and I outweighed him by 40 pounds so it shifted the whole dynamic. Vince got mad at me because I outweighed Akebono by 40 pounds. Sorry, I’m a giant. What do you want? I remember Vince was so pissed at me — ‘You need to lose some weight God dammit!’ Like he was so mad at me because I think I weighed 509 and Akebono weighed like 472 or something like that. So they were trying to figure out how to make Akebono weigh more.”

“When I was on IMPACT, I did the ‘dollhouse’ gimmick, which was completely different and out of my comfort zone because doing anything sexy is foreign to me. I remember when I had to cut promos as that character, and the critique that I would always get is, ‘Can you not sound so street and sound a little bit sexier.’”

Ross stated that during Anderson’s run in WWE when he was the holder of the Money In The Bank briefcase, the plan for him was to eventually win the world championship but when his tricep injury came about, Kennedy had to drop the briefcase and it started a domino effect of him being viewed as injury prone.

“Yeah, absolutely. That was the plan. That was the plan. That’s why he won the Money In The Bank Ladder match, to be able to be positioned to take the next step. But again, his body gave out on him and the tricep injury was serious and he was off for several months and it’s not an injury you can jack around with because, once that tricep gets reattached, you gotta nurse that reattachment in kid gloves, because it’s very easy for it to be popped loose again if you don’t let it heal. So, but I think he was the guy. Again, Vince McMahon had great confidence in the potential of Mr. Kennedy and he believed this kid had something to be that chicken sh*t heel. He’s not gonna overpower you with his size. He’s gonna beat you by his cunning skill set, cheating to get an unfair advantage, like Ric Flair did forever. One of the great heel champions of all-time.”

Ripley feels that currently, NXT has the best women’s division ever and she does not have an argument against that opinion.

“I think [that] NXT has the best women’s division ever and I am not going to argue about that fact. We are all so dedicated at what we do and we want to be the best. NXT as a whole is like you are fighting from your heart to prove that we are the main roster.”

** On the latest edition of ‘After 83 Weeks’ with Christy Olson, Eric Bischoff spoke about the news that made the rounds concerning MJF giving the middle finger to a young child at a meet and greet. Bischoff says he understands both sides of the argument but if the parent knew the MJF character, he has to take responsibility for that.

“My first reaction was, I wouldn’t have done it. But I also understand it. It’s a very tricky thing, because people, when they come to meet and greets… I’ve found that fans really do want to see the character. They really do want to experience the character in real life and in person, more than they want to interact with the guy who plays the character. I understand it. I’m not going to criticize him for doing it, because he was staying in his character and that’s generally what people want to see. But it was a judgement call, and I’m not sure how I would’ve reacted. If I was MJF, I probably would’ve done it myself at his age. Especially if the dad knows the character and knows who MJF is, there’s some responsibility on the dad’s part too. If the dad is that sensitive to it, or thinks his son may be that sensitive to it because his son may not understand that [MJF] is playing a character, then that’s the dad’s responsibility to some degree — maybe a large degree. I think the world of [MJF] as a character. I think he’s a great, great young talent with an amazing future. He cuts one of the best promos in the industry as of right now in my opinion. I think that puts him head and shoulders above a lot of people.”

** To promote Elimination Chamber, Liv Morgan did an interview with CBS Local Sports. Liv was asked about the angle she did with Lana, Rusev and Bobby Lashley and she revealed her reaction when she initially found out about how she was going to be returning to TV.

“I was like, ‘It’s crazy enough, I’ll do it.’ I was excited. I was excited, there’s nothing like that-that’s ever been done in the company before. Lana and Lashley, they were taking up a very large portion of the screen time on RAW. So, for me, being off of TV for nine months to, now you’re in the main-event picture, in the main-event spotlight, I was like, ‘Okay, cool. I’m ready for it. Thank you for the opportunity.’”

On the previous season of Total Divas, The Bella Twins flew Liv’s mom into Maui where the Total Divas crew were on vacation. Liv revealed how that came about:

“Yeah, I know. I get misty-eyed when I talk about it, because it just meant so much to me that just hearing me say that I haven’t been on vacation with my family made the girls feel strongly enough like, ‘Wow, we’ve got to get Liv’s mom here.’ I’m really grateful for that. My mom was there for 24 hours. I don’t remember how long the flight was. It was 12 hours, I think. I don’t even remember. I might have added a couple of hours. But my mom doesn’t fly. She doesn’t like to travel. She hates flying, she’s not comfortable with it. They snuck in my phone and got her contact number and called her and asked her if she wanted to come out just for the day to see me. She was like, ‘Of course.’ So she took that flight there and back, just for 12 hours in this Hawaii house. It just seems crazy. I was so shocked and so surprised, and I’m going to be thankful for that the rest of my life.”

“I have a very close friendship with Sonya Deville, so I spoke to her, and the details of those conversations I’m politely not going to share with you. But everything’s fine. Everything’s cool. We talked about it. She’s still a very good friend of mine, and I can’t be mad at anyone for how they feel and how they react to things. Everyone is gonna feel how they want to feel, so I’ve just got to allow that. At the end of the day, this is business, this is work, and I’m doing what I’m told and supposed to do, you know?”

Liv was asked why does she think the Riott Squad didn’t reach that heights that they could’ve. She simply narrowed it down to it just not being their time when the introduction of WWE’s women’s tag team division was formulating.

“I think about that too, and, um, I don’t know. At that time, they went from like no tag teams in the women’s division to all of sudden having all these tag teams in the division, and then we had the [Women’s] Tag Team Titles introduced, and I personally felt like when we were at our height, we were just following up on all cylinders. We were so fluid and we knew what we were doing. We knew our dynamic, but just unfortunately it wasn’t our time.”

** Daily Chronicle interviewed WCPW (Windy City Pro Wrestling) promoter James K. Duck about WCPW’s upcoming show on March 14th in DeKalb, Illinois. When asked why he decided to run a show in DeKalb, Duck explained that the firefighters in the area saved his life and this is his way of giving back.

“A few weeks after I bought my house in DeKalb five years ago, I had a severe asthma attack, went into cardiac arrest and was dead for five minutes. The only reason that I am alive today is because of the wonderful crew of people over at DeKalb Fire Station 2. They kept me viable with CPR until I could be shocked back to life. I spent three days in ICU, and after I left the hospital, I had a new appreciation for life and the idea of making every day count. A few weeks later, I finally trademarked the defunct WCPW name for myself and began building my version of this business. I figure that since I owe my life to some of the fine people of DeKalb, I should give back part of my life to DeKalb and re-launch my company right here in Barb City, so I can bring some joy to others in the form of affordable family sports entertainment. We hope to return to DeKalb in May. We have an upcoming event in Chicago in June.”

“The Bella Twins and I started our careers together in WWE the very same week in FCW, which was then WWE’s developmental territory. I can’t say enough about how hard these women have worked since day one.  We connected so well from the start because we always believed that hard work combined with passion would inevitably bring us success. While learning the ropes together, I saw something in them that wasn’t just about headlocks and dropkicks. Brie and Nikki are women who want to empower other women from every walk of life. The twins lead by example and encourage the women around them, like myself, to reach for their dreams.”
