KOAT out of Albuquerque, New Mexico was the first to report that UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones was arrested late Wednesday night and faces several charges. Officers responded after being alerted to a gunshot going off and later, discovered Jones in his vehicle with the engine running.

Jones denied any knowledge regarding the gunshot but after displaying signs of being intoxicated, the authorities performed a sobriety test and Jones was said to be at least twice above the legal limit. They also found a handgun in the vehicle along with a half-empty bottle of alcohol.

MMA Fighting obtained the arrest record that states the arrest occurred at 1:01 am early Thursday morning with Jones cited for aggravated DWI, negligent use of a firearm, possession of an open container, and no proof of insurance inside the vehicle. A representative with the police department spoke to ESPN and said the gun would be examined to see if it was used in any crimes.

Jones was released from custody on Thursday morning.

Jones has previously pleaded guilty to DUI after an arrest in May 2012. In September 2015 he was convicted on a felony hit-and-run charge, and most recently pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct after facing charges from an incident at an establishment in New Mexico.

Jones last fought in February where he defeated Dominick Reyes by unanimous decision.
