WWE announces tournament to determine interim NXT Cruiserweight Champion

With the current NXT Cruiserweight Champion Jordan Devlin being in Ireland and not being able to leave due to the COVID-19 outbreak and the travel laws that come with that, WWE is going to be hosting a tournament to determine an interim NXT Cruiserweight Champion

NXT on-screen General Manager William Regal appeared on today’s edition of WWE The Bump and made the announcement that within the coming days, names will be announced for a tournament to crown an interim NXT Cruiserweight Champion. The current NXT Cruiserweight Champion Jordan Devlin is currently in his home of Ireland and due to the COVID-19 outbreak and the travel laws that come with that, he’s not able to make his way to Florida to defend the title.

Regal did not say that Devlin is being stripped of the belt, but a new representative of the title will be determined via the aforementioned tournament. As far as Matt Riddle and Pete Dunne go, Regal says an announcement regarding their status as NXT Tag Team Champions is expected to be made within the coming week.

Jordan Devlin won the NXT Cruiserweight Title at WWE’s Worlds Collide event during Royal Rumble weekend and has defended the title on NXT and NXT UK against the likes of Lio Rush and Travis Banks.

Slated for tonight’s episode of NXT on the USA Network is a match between Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa, and a 6-woman Ladder match to determine the next challenger to Charlotte Flair’s NXT Women’s Championship.
