In a strange twist given his focus on WWE television, Drew Gulak is not under contract with WWE after his deal came to its expiration.
It was reported by Mike Johnson at PWinsider.com that Gulak’s contract had expired following an initial report from Pro Wrestling Sheet regarding his status.
Gulak had just appeared on Friday Night SmackDown this week in a tremendous match, losing to Daniel Bryan in the opening round of the Intercontinental title tournament that was taped earlier this week at the WWE Performance Center.
Gulak, 33, joined WWE in 2016 as part of the Cruiserweight Classic where he was eliminated in the second round by Zack Sabre Jr. He would later be utilized on Raw and became a focal point on 205 Live when the show launched later that year.
In June 2019, he won the Cruiserweight title defeating Tony Nese and Akira Tozawa in a triple threat match and held it until October when he dropped the title to Lio Rush.
After being a comedic figure utilizing PowerPoint presentations, he broke out this year through a feud and eventual alliance with Daniel Bryan. The two had an excellent match at the Elimination Chamber event this past March and went from rivals to training partners on SmackDown. It led to this past week’s opening round match of the Intercontinental title tournament where Bryan submitted Gulak.
Yes, #ThankYouBryan! 🙏 A tournament requires great strength. Today let’s work on our shoulders with what I like to call #Gulakmetrics! You can do this simple exercise anywhere! All you need is an immovable object. https://t.co/YRg7xqZEtT pic.twitter.com/nCYITpq1ow
