The trilogy fight between UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic and former champion Daniel Cormier is set for August with several outlets confirming the date.
It was first reported by Brett Okamoto of ESPN that the two will meet on Saturday, August 15th one year removed from their last fight where Miocic regained the heavyweight title from Cormier.
Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports spoke with UFC president Dana White, who confirmed that it will take place at UFC 252 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Their first fight took place at UFC 226 on July 7, 2018, where Cormier stopped Miocic in the first round of their championship fight to win the heavyweight title while ending Miocic’s two-year reign as champion.
The rematch took place on August 17, 2019, at UFC 241 where Cormier was controlling the fight and Miocic adjusted his strategy, targeted the body, and stopped Cormier in the fourth round to regain the title. Neither fighter has competed since that fight.
After posting a photo of his signature Monday night teasing the fight announcement, Cormier confirmed the news on Tuesday:
This one is for all the marbles. 1-1, both knockouts but great fights, I can’t wait to fight this dude again!! Now it’s time to work as hard as I ever trained. #weareaka #zinkinsportsmanagement #2xheavyweightchamp 2xlightheavyweightchamp pic.twitter.com/BvyhectS4X
