The main event of tonight’s episode of NXT saw NXT Champion Adam Cole defeat Dexter Lumis in a non-title match. Cole, with the help of Roderick Strong and Bobby Fish was able to best Lumis but after the match, Cole was approached by Scarlett who alerted Cole that Karrion Kross is coming after him.

On the 6/17 episode of NXT, Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel are going to be defending the NXT Tag Team Championships against Tyler Breeze and Fandango. This Sunday at Backlash, Sasha Banks and Bayley are putting their WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles on the line in a Triple-Threat tag team match involving The IIconics (Peyton Royce & Billie Kay) and Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross. The winners of that match will be defending the WWE Women’s Tag Titles on NXT the following Wednesday against Shotzi Blackheart and Tegan Nox.

El Hijo del Fantasma came out to the ring to discuss his NXT Cruiserweight Title win from last week. He was met in the ring by Drake Maverick who issued a challenge to Fantasma. The two masked men who have been appearing on NXT over the past several months made their way to the ring and before they got in the ring, Fantasma turned his back on Maverick and Maverick was jumped by all three men. The masked men were revealed to be Joaquin Wilde and Raul Mendoza who were “kidnapped” in the Full Sail parking lot. El Hijo del Fantasma unmasked himself and is now going by “Santos Escobar”.

An Io Shirai celebration to promote her NXT Women’s Title win at TakeOver was advertised but it did not happen. Instead, a video package aired which recapped her title win.
