REPORT: WWE suspends Joe Coffey, two NXT UK referees released

Following the #SpeakingOut movement that saw many male pro wrestlers be called out for sexual assault and/or harassment, WWE has also released two of their NXT U.K. referees along with suspending in-ring talent Joe Coffey.

The #SpeakingOut movement saw many male pro wrestlers be accused of sexual assault and/or harassment. Following the accusations being made public against WWE talents, WWE released Jack Gallagher, Travis Banks and El Ligero. Two NXT U.K. referees have been released as well. It was first reported by PWInsider that referee Joel Allen was released from the company over the weekend.

Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline reported that Chris Roberts has been released and on top of that information, NXT UK’s Joe Coffey has been suspended from WWE after his name surfaced in the midst of the #SpeakingOut movement.

There was a mandatory NXT UK conference call held today that is being described as a “check-in” of sorts to remind talents to be ready once the brand is ready to resume operations.

Multiple NXT UK talents including Nina Samuels, referee Chris Sharpe and NXT UK Women’s Champion Kay Lee Ray recently tweeted about returning to the ring.
