Billy Corgan: The NWA is not shutting down

After Raven did an interview stating that he's heard the NWA might be closing its doors, Billy Corgan took to social media to deny that claim.

NWA President Billy Corgan took to his social media pages to provide an update on the National Wrestling Alliance. Corgan noted that the organization is not closing its doors, is not up for sale and they’re trying to figure out a way to present a unique product to their fan base during the COVID-19 pandemic. Here’s what Corgan wrote:

“A quick note about the National Wrestling Alliance, which I fought for, and won ownership of a few years back. We are NOT shutting down. So please disregard any and all rumor to the effect. The NWA is not and will not be for sale, and those talent who are under contract for a reason: which is that we at the NWA are trying to figure out a way to provide our great fans with wrestling content in a very, very tough environment. And, most importantly, keep our talent safe and the standard of production you’ve come to expect from us at a high level. Anything less, in my opinion, is unacceptable. So yes, appreciate the interest, appreciate the chatter, but don’t appreciate the unsourced rumors and speculation.”

This comes after former NWA World Heavyweight Champion Raven did an interview with Hannibal TV and stated that he heard Billy Corgan was looking to close down the National Wrestling Alliance.

“Well I didn’t book with Billy [Corgan] before. I worked with him in the office. I was like his assistance I guess. But, me and Billy get along really well, but I think Billy’s shutting it down from what I hear. So I don’t — yeah, plus Billy wants to — so the only thing is Billy really does the booking. Billy does all the booking, at least he did with the Resistance Pro [promotion]. He liked me there to have my wrestling mind so I could say yay or no to ideas. Like if they make sense, if they don’t but ultimately he was the final say on everything as he should’ve been. But, yeah I don’t know. I heard [through] the grapevine that Billy’s not opening it back up. He’s really disillusioned.”

NWA Vice President David Lagana resigned from his position after Liz Savage made allegations of sexual harassment against him during the #SpeakingOut movement. Lagana was behind the production for the majority of the NWA’s content. The last video uploaded to their YouTube channel was three weeks ago. On June 23rd, Lagana issued a statement to POST Wrestling about the allegations against him and that can be read at this link.
