WWE NXT notes: TakeOver: XXX ladder match update, “Killer” Tim Brooks, Robert Stone

The 7/22 episode of NXT featured the announcement of TakeOver: XXX and the North American Championship ladder match that'll take place at the event.

To open the 7/22 episode of NXT, Keith Lee announced that he’s relinquishing the North American Title and focusing solely on being NXT Champion. William Regal followed up by announcing that the North American Title will be on the line at TakeOver: XXX during SummerSlam weekend in a ladder match. Bronson Reed was the first to qualify for said ladder match by defeating Roderick Strong and Johnny Gargano in a Triple-Threat.

On next week’s edition of NXT, Finn Balor, Timothy Thatcher and Dexter Lumis will meet in a three-way to determine the next competitor in the TakeOver ladder match.

As mentioned, Keith Lee opened up NXT and delivered a speech about being both NXT and North American Champion. While speaking about his journey to being the then-double champion, Lee mentioned his trainer, “Killer” Tim Brooks who passed away on June 30th and a graphic aired for Brooks as Lee spoke about him.

Shotzi Blackheart bested Aliyah in singles competition. After the match, Blackheart ran over Robert Stone’s healthy foot with her mini-tank but she was soon given a big boot by Mercedes Martinez. Later in the show, Martinez approached Stone and asked him to take care of the business side of her run in NXT while she handles the in-ring work.

Breezango (Tyler Breeze & Fandango) were in action and they defeated Ever-Rise (Chase Parker & Matt Martel). Breezango’s theme this week was dedicated to The Mountie, Jacques Rougeau Jr.
