AAA’s annual biggest show of the year in Triplemania was scheduled to take place on August 22nd at Arena Ciudad de México in Mexico City. The COVID-19 pandemic has put a hold on when the show will take place and AAA owner Dorian Roldan addressed the situation at hand during a virtual press conference that can be watched on the AAA YouTube channel.
Roldan stated that Triplemania will not take place as scheduled. The company is exploring other options and are still looking to hold the event this year. Below is a quote from the press conference, as transcribed by Carlos Toro of Fightful:
“I think when it comes to the celebration of TripleMania XXVIII, due to the sanitary situation going on around our country, it won’t be possible to do the show on August 22. It’s important to note that we are still exploring other alternatives to have this TripleMania event happen in 2020 and it will be in accordance with how the pandemic develops in the coming months. I want to reiterate that August 22 is not possible, but that we are looking to do TripleMania XXVIII with the proper health guidelines in 2020.”
Prior to the show being postponed, there were two matches scheduled for the show including Pagano versus Chessman in a Hair vs. Hair match. The second of two matches was the finals of the Suicidas Tag Team Tournament and that bout was also going to be a mask vs. mask match. Myzteziz Jr. and Octagon Jr. vs. La Parka Negra and Dave the Clown vs. Aero Star and Drago vs. Los Lucha Brothers (Fénix and Pentagón Jr.) versus an unannounced team was the tourney final.
AAA’s Mega Champion Kenny Omega had not been announced for the show. Omega won the title from Fenix in October of 2019 and wore the championship several times on AEW programming.
