AEW Dynamite notes: AEW World Title match on 8/5, Excalibur not on commentary, Cardona

AEW set up segments and matches for their next two weeks of programming. Jon Moxley is set to defend his AEW World Championship against Darby Allin on 8/5, but MJF issued a challenge for the AEW World Title and he wants that match at All Out.

Coming out of the 7/29 edition of AEW Dynamite, a number of segments and matches were set up for the next several weeks of AEW programming. Jon Moxley and Darby Allin bested Ricky Starks and Brian Cage in the main event of Dynamite after Allin used his thumbtack-covered skateboard against the back of Ricky Starks. After the match, it was announced that Moxley will be defending the AEW World Championship against Allin on 8/5.

Excalibur was not on commentary tonight and Taz filled in for him. Several videos of Excalibur saying the n-word surfaced and received a great deal of traction on social media.

On the 8/5 edition of Dynamite, Chris Jericho and Orange Cassidy will have a “debate” which will be the precursor to their rematch the following week. Jericho stated that if he beats Orange Cassidy, Cassidy has to give him $7,000.

WARHORSE was defeated by Cody on AEW Dynamite and was not successful in capturing the TNT Championship. Both WARHORSE and Cody were ambushed by Alex Reynolds and John Silver of Dark Order. The two men were fought off by the debuting Matt Cardona who’ll be in action next week in a tag match with Cody against Silver and Reynolds.

There was a segment during the show where FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) met with “counselors” to negotiate their AEW contracts. Arn Anderson came in the room to help the duo negotiate and he referred to them as the best tag team in the world. It was not long before Hangman Adam Page joined in and it was also announced that on August 12th, FTR will host AEW Tag Team Appreciation night.

Stu Grayson and Evil Uno of Dark Order challenged Kenny Omega and Hangman Page for the AEW World Tag Team Titles. Brodie Lee and Colt Cabana were at the commentary table for the match and they were accompanied by Anna Jay.

Britt Baker had a segment during the show and she stated that she’ll give Big Swole a match against her if Swole can defeat an opponent of her [Baker’s] choosing. Baker is scheduled to return to the ring at All Out in September. While on the topic of All Out, MJF challenged Jon Moxley to an AEW World Championship match at the event during his “State of the Industry Address”.

On next week’s Dynamite, MJF will be back to follow up on his challenge to Jon Moxley. Also next week, FTR, The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega and Hangman Page are teaming up to face Dark Order (Brodie Lee, Colt Cabana, Stu Grayson, Evil Uno and two Dark Order followers).
