The main event of the 2020 WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view saw The Fiend Bray Wyatt defeat Braun Strowman to become a two-time Universal Champion. Strowman and Wyatt have been feuding coming out of WrestleMania 36 and their feud hit its next checkpoint with a title switch. As Wyatt was recouping in the ring, he was speared by a returning Roman Reigns who chose to take himself off of WWE TV at the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak in the United States.

Reigns did an interview on WWE’s YouTube channel in June and when asked about a potential return, he reiterated that he just wanted everyone to be safe.
Tonight at SummerSlam was Reigns’ first time on WWE TV since he appeared on Friday Night SmackDown in March to promote his match against Goldberg for the Universal Championship that was scheduled for WrestleMania.
