The vacant IWGP junior heavyweight tag titles were awarded on Friday’s New Japan Road event with the finals of the tournament taking place.

The tournament came down to El Desperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru defeating Hiromu Takahashi & BUSHI to win the vacant titles that were put up in a round-robin tournament over the course of the tour.

The end came when Takahashi was struck by Kanemaru’s whiskey bottle and hit with two Pinche Locos with the final one keeping Takahashi down for the cover.

The titles were vacated by Roppongi 3K weeks after it was reported that YOH would be out of action indefinitely with a knee injury.

El Desperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru had previously held the titles for ten months from March 2018 until January 2019. It’s Kanemaru’s fourth reign with the titles following his previous title runs alongside Tsuyoshi Kikuchi in 2002 and Taichi in 2017.
