Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson along with his business partner Dany Garcia partnered with RedBird Capital to purchase the XFL football league in August. The two parties paid a total of $15 million for the failed football league and today, Johnson announced that the XFL is returning in the Spring of 2022.

The XFL was officially revived by WWE Chairman Vince McMahon in January of 2018 and the league relaunched in February of 2020. After only several weeks of play, the league shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Three days after the league suspended operations, Chapter 11 bankruptcy was filed.
Coming out of the league’s shut down, Vince McMahon was sued by former XFL commissioner Oliver Luck for wrongful termination. Luck’s contract was terminated one day before half of the league’s staff was laid off.
