NXT’s women’s division expanded following TakeOver 31 as Ember Moon returned to the brand after a year away from in-ring competition due to an Achilles tear. In that same segment following Io Shirai retaining the NXT Women’s Title, former NXT U.K. Women’s Champion Toni Storm announced that she is back in NXT and gunning for Io.

At the conclusion of TakeOver, NXT Champion Finn Balor and Kyle O’Reilly raised each other’s hands after their match. The camera then cut to the ringside area where Ridge Holland was carrying Adam Cole over his shoulder. Holland dropped Cole in front of O’Reilly and shortly after, Roderick Strong and Bobby Fish made their way to the ringside area to check on Cole.

Scott Armstrong returned to WWE for his first event since being furloughed in April. Armstrong was one of many WWE producers, trainers and staff members-alike that were either furloughed or let go from the company as a part of WWE’s mass cuts and furloughs earlier this year.
On commentary for TakeOver was Vic Joseph, Beth Phoenix and Wade Barrett. There was an announce desk set up by ringside but the individuals who were sitting at the table with Vic Joseph were not Beth Phoenix and Wade Barrett. Both Phoenix and Barrett called the show from their respective remote locations.
Johnny Gargano got involved in the NXT Women’s Title match between Candice LeRae and Io Shirai. Gargano came to the ring with a referee shirt on and attempted to count LeRae’s pinfall. The TakeOver 31 pre-show with Scott Stanford and Sam Roberts can be watched at this link.
