Elias last wrestled for WWE in the first round of the Intercontinental Championship tournament in May against King Corbin. Elias defeated Corbin in the tournament and several weeks later, Elias was involved in a storyline where he was injured via a “car accident” that was pushed to be Jeff Hardy’s doing.
In WWE’s announcement about Elias’ injury, they noted on their official website that he suffered broken ribs and a torn pectoral muscle. After six months out of the ring, Elias made his return on night two of the WWE Draft and attacked Jeff Hardy with a guitar. Jeff was competing in a Triple-Threat match that involved AJ Styles and Seth Rollins. Hardy took the pin in the match after being hit with the guitar.

Following his return, Stephanie McMahon revealed that Elias has been drafted to Monday Night RAW. Elias is joining both Hardy and Styles on the brand.
