For the second year in a row, New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s biggest show of the year in Wrestle Kingdom will be a two-day event. January 4th and 5th of 2021 are the dates set for next year’s show but the Tokyo Dome will not be filled to its capacity of 50,000 due to COVID-19 concerns. Takami Obari, who is the new President of NJPW after taking over from Harold Meij, did an interview with Tokyo Sports and stated that a limit of 20,000 people per Dome show is set.
New Japan held their first show with fans in attendance since the beginning of the pandemic in July for the conclusion of the New Japan Cup tournament that was won by EVIL, who ultimately went on to become IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental Champion.
In late September, former President Harold Meij wrote about his time being the head of New Japan and how he hoped to see the company come out of the Coronavirus pandemic strong.
NJPW is currently presenting their ‘Road to Power Struggle’ shows to lead into their ‘Power Struggle’ event on November 7th. Headlining that event is Tetsuya Naito defending the IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental Titles against EVIL and following that show, the 2020 World Tag League and Best of the Super Juniors tournaments will commence.
