The AEW Women’s World Champion Hikaru Shida has been involved in a storyline with Abadon. Abadon has “frightened” Shida throughout their on-screen program and that trend continued on the 12/23 episode of Dynamite. Shida picked up a win over Alex Gracia and after the match, she went back to the outside with a kendo stick in hand to finish what she started with Abadon who was laid out by the ringside area. Abadon then jumped up, pushed Shida into a guardrail and bit into her neck. On night one of AEW’s New Year’s Smash, she’ll challenge Shida for the women’s title.

Night one of New Year’s Smash will feature the return of Jon Moxley. Moxley lost the AEW World Championship to Kenny Omega at ‘Winter Is Coming’ earlier this month. The AEW World Title will be on the line next week when Omega defends the gold against Rey Fenix.

Members of The Inner Circle are going one-on-one on 12/30 as Wardlow is scheduled to take on Jake Hager in singles competition.

Penelope Ford, Miro and Kip Sabian had a segment on Dynamite to announce the date for Sabian and Ford’s wedding. Their wedding is taking place on a beach at AEW’s ‘Beach Break’ show on February 3rd. Prior to the date reveal, footage was shown of Orange Cassidy and Chuckie T getting into an ambulance with Trent who had been ambushed.

Adding on to the lineup for night two of New Year’s Smash on 1/6 is Darby Allin defending the TNT Title against Brian Cage, FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) taking on Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy along with Cody Rhodes versus Matt Sydal.
