The IWGP Tag Team Championships were the first titles defended on night one of Wrestle Kingdom 15. Guerrillas of Destiny (Tanga Loa & Tama Tonga) challenged Taichi and Zack Sabre Jr. for the titles. Tama and Tanga won the 2020 World Tag League tournament and bested David Finlay and Juice Robinson in the finals to earn their way to Wrestle Kingdom 15.
After what was a back and forth match, the final sequence saw Tama Tonga grab the iron claw which Taichi adopted from Takashi Iizuka and used it against Taichi which led to Guerrillas of Destiny winning the IWGP Tag Team Championships.
Tama Tanga and Tanga Loa are now seven-time IWGP Tag Team Champions and they ended Taichi and Zack Sabre Jr.’s reign that started in the summer of 2020.
Thus far on the night, the KOPW match for night two has been set and Hiromu Takahashi defeated El Phantasmo to secure his IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title match on night two against the champion Taiji Ishimori.
