AEW New Year’s Smash notes: Snoop Dogg does Tadpole Splash, TNT Title, Trent

Snoop Dogg gets physical at New Year's Smash, the TNT Championship belt gets a new look and the lineup for week two of AEW New Year's Smash.

Multi-time Grammy nominated and Billboard award winning artist Snoop Dogg was a special guest on AEW New Year’s Smash. Snoop first appeared in a segment with Private Party (Isiah Kassidy & Marq Quen) and Matt Hardy. Snoop also remixed Cody Rhodes’ theme song which he and Cody walked to the ring to. Following Cody’s match against Matt Sydal on the show, Snoop Dogg hit a Frog Splash onto Serpentico.

Darby Allin brought out the new TNT Championship title design for the weigh-in between himself and Brian Cage for their title match next week. The previous design was retired after Tony Khan gave it to Jon Huber’s son, Brodie. Here’s a look at the new design:

Trent suffered a torn pectoral muscle and during a backstage segment with Chuck Taylor and Orange Cassidy, Taylor stated that Trent will be out for 4-to-5 months. This led to Miro mocking Trent’s injury and a match being set up between Chuck Taylor and Miro for next week.

Kenny Omega welcomed Kip Sabian onto the debut episode of AEW’s 2.Show.

Jon Moxley made his physical return to Dynamite for the first time since losing the AEW World Championship to Kenny Omega at Winter Is Coming. Moxley’s night ended with him being ambushed by IMPACT Tag Team Champions Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson.

In the opening match of the show, Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian, Matt and Nick Jackson picked up a win over Anthony Bowens, Max Caster, Angelico and Jack Evans. Post-match, S.C.U. issued a challenge to Matt and Nick for the AEW World Tag Team Titles.
