The headlining match of the 1/30 NJPW New Beginning in Nagoya card saw Shingo Takagi put the NEVER Openweight Championship on the line against Hiroshi Tanahashi. Shingo won the title for a second time in November of 2020 and that reign was ended by Tanahashi.

This is the first time that Tanahashi has won the NEVER Openweight Title and he’s now won every active championship in the company other than the IWGP U.S. Heavyweight Title which is in the possession of Jon Moxley.

As Tanahashi was celebrating with the Nagoya crowd, he was ambushed by Great-O-Khan who was in action earlier in the night. O-Khan defeated Hiroyoshi Tenzan in a match which had a stipulation that the loser can longer use the Mongolian Chop maneuver.

On night one of Wrestle Kingdom 15, Tanahashi defeated O-Khan in a singles match and following Tanahashi’s title win, O-Khan came to avenge his Wrestle Kingdom loss and stake claim to Tanahashi’s NEVER Openweight Championship.
