AEW Dynamite and NXT experienced increases this week in both viewership and in the main 18-49 demographic.
AEW’s second-to-last episode prior to the Revolution pay-per-view saw Dynamite average 831,000 viewers and a 0.35 in the 18-49 demographic finishing fifth for the night on cable. It was AEW’s second-best demo figure of 2021 with an increase of 13 percent while viewers were up by 11.2 percent.
On the USA Network, NXT finished 24th for the night on cable with 734,000 viewers and a 0.18 in the 18-49 demo. It was NXT’s best viewership figure since December 16, 2020, and the demo jumped by 12.5 percent from last week. NXT has benefited from back-to-back weeks of strong ratings in its 50+ demo as both weeks did a 0.40, meaning the gains are mainly coming from its older audience.
AEW had buzz throughout the day with the news of Paul Wight’s signing with a tease that additional information would be revealed on the show. Beyond the 18-49 demo, they also jumped by 15 percent with women 18-49 and their 50+ demo increased by 16 percent. The only audience that fell was women 12-34 by 8 percent.
NXT stayed consistent with its 50+ figure and was the only key demo to top AEW. NXT also saw increases with females 18-49, females 12-34, and men 18-49 grew by 10 percent. It was a good sign for NXT, who experienced a boost after the TakeOver special last week and maintained that audience.
Both shows went against the Golden State Warriors vs. Indiana Pacers game on ESPN that averaged 1,138,000 viewers and a 0.37 in the 18-49 demo.
Next week is a loaded edition of AEW Dynamite featuring Shaquille O’Neal & Jade Cargill taking on Cody Rhodes & Red Velvet, plus the first AEW appearance from Paul Wight. NXT is countering with a WWE women’s tag title match with Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler defending their titles against Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzalez.
We have not received any Canadian viewership figures yet and will update the story if we do. Wednesday night marked the first time AEW Dynamite and NXT aired head-to-head in the country with the live version of NXT being added to Sportsnet 360. Due to the NHL, NBA, and Curling coverage, neither AEW nor NXT finished among the top ten sports programs on Wednesday.
