Ariel Helwani reviving The MMA Hour, announces post-ESPN plans

Multiple-time MMA Journalist of the Year Ariel Helwani has announced his plans for his post-ESPN career including a return to MMA Fighting.

Multiple-time MMA Journalist of the Year Ariel Helwani has announced his plans for his post-ESPN career.

On Monday, the reporter outlined his plans to work at multiple outlets including a return to Vox Media under the MMA Fighting banner.

Beginning August 16th, Helwani will resurrect The MMA Hour show that he launched in 2009 while moving it to two days per week with Monday and Wednesday editions.

Helwani left MMA Fighting in June 2018 to sign with ESPN, where he worked for the past three years, and left once his contract was up. Helwani shared that he was offered a new deal but declined the offer.

In a press release from Vox Media, the outlet stated:

The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani will have its own dedicated podcast feed alongside the MMA Fighting podcast feed from SB Nation, which will continue to release episodes every week from voices such as Mike Heck, Alexander Lee, Jose Youngs, Shaun Al-Shatti, Damon Martin, and Jed Meshew.

Helwani also announced the other outlets he will work with and projects he is launching:
* An exclusive podcast on Spotify under The Ringer’s banner that will include pre and post-event shows around major events, which will be live on Spotify’s Greenroom outlet (which is a competitor to Clubhouse), this will also include breaking news shows with the shows available as podcasts after
* A role with BT Sport as an MMA, Boxing, and Pro Wrestling contributor. This will include long-form sit-down interviews for the network.
* The launch of a Substack newsletter
* Reviving his YouTube channel with non-MMA content. His channel has over 85,000 subscribers
