Suwama reigned as AJPW Triple Crown Heavyweight Champion since March of 2020. He was scheduled to defend the championship against 2021 Champion Carnival Winner Jake Lee. Suwama contracted COVID-19 and vacated the Triple Crown.

A new champion will be crowned on 6/26 at All Japan’s show at the Ota City Gymnasium. Jake Lee, Kento Miyahara and Yuma Aoyagi will be competing for the title. This match will not be a three-way or Triple-Threat.

In the PKDX article, Mitsuharu Misawa, Kenta Kobashi and Toshiaki Kawada’s 1997 Champion Carnival finals was referenced. That was a three-way tie for first place so there was a one-night round-robin style playoff to determine the winner.

In early May, Jake Lee defeated Kento Miyahara in the Champion Carnival final. It was the fourth time in a row that Miyahara made it to a Champion Carnival final. He lost in 2020 and in 2018 but it was in 2019 that Miyahara bested Jake Lee to win the tournament.
