AEW has announced the official signing of women’s star Thunder Rosa after months of working with the company.

Thunder Rosa (Melissa Cervantes) had been under contract with the NWA throughout her appearances with AEW. Last fall, Billy Corgan commented on the status of Thunder Rosa noting that the performer was under contract to the group through 2021.

The news coincides with her 35th birthday with Cervantes issuing the following statement regarding the news of her AEW deal:

Never in my life doubt that I would be where I want to be! Today one of the biggest accomplishments in my career has been announced! #lameramera Is FINALLY WHERE SHE BELONGS

The NWA account posted the following:

She’ll always be #NWAFam for a lot of us, but we want to send love to @thunderrosa22 and wish her well in the next chapter of her journey. Go show ’em all what we already know.

Thunder Rosa first appeared on AEW programming in August 2020 and led to a match against women’s champion Hikaru Shida at All Out last year, which Shida won. Earlier this year, Rosa’s feud with Britt Baker culminated in a memorable Lights Out match on the March 17th edition of Dynamite that headlined the show.

Thunder Rosa held the NWA Women’s Championship from January 24, 2020, until October 27th where she lost the title to Serena Deeb.

She has also pursued MMA where she had her pro debut in November 2019 with a loss to Nadine Mandiau on a Combate Americas (now Combate Global) card in San Antonio, Texas.
