The NXT UK Championship will be defended at the next NXT TakeOver special featuring a major rematch.
It was revealed on NXT UK on Thursday that champion WALTER will defend the title against Ilja Dragunov at NXT TakeOver: 36 on Sunday, August 22nd.
The two had one of the best matches of the year in 2020 and had been scheduled for a rematch on NXT UK television. However, an injury to WALTER led to the match being delayed from its original air date of August 5th.
WALTER has been NXT UK Champion since April 2019 when he defeated Pete Dunne at TakeOver: New York.
Earlier this year, WALTER defended the title against Tommaso Ciampa at the NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver show.
Their first match ended due to a referee’s stoppage after 25 minutes and was a legitimate match-of-the-year contender.
