AEW Dynamite notes: Malakai Black, Cody’s speech, Leyla Hirsch/Kamille, Rampage

Notes coming out of AEW's Homecoming show which was headlined by Malakai Black versus Cody Rhodes

Closing out AEW Homecoming was Cody Rhodes versus Malakai Black in Malakai’s AEW in-ring debut. In under ten minutes, Malakai defeated Rhodes. When Rhodes came to, he had an interview segment and spoke about how much he enjoys Daily’s Place, touched on the in-fighting between AEW EVPs and despite that, he has love for his colleagues. Before Rhodes could leave both of his boots in the ring, Malakai hit him over the back with a crutch.

The debut of AEW Rampage is scheduled for August 13th in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Britt Baker will be in action on that show and she is defending the AEW Women’s World Title against Red Velvet. The commentary team for Rampage is Excalibur, Mark Henry, Chris Jericho and Taz.

Leyla Hirsch and The Bunny competed in singles action to determine the #1 contender to the NWA World Women’s Championship. Hirsch got the victory and post-match, she had a confrontation with the champion Kamille.

To open the show, Chris Jericho made it past his third ‘labour’ which was Juventud Guerrera. Jericho defeated Juventud with a ‘Judas Effect’ from the top rope.

Jericho’s next ‘labour’ is a singles match with Wardlow and MJF will be the special guest referee. Here’s the lineup for the 8/11 episode of AEW Dynamite:

  • Nyla Rose (w/ Vickie Guerrero) vs. Kris Statlander (w/ Orange Cassidy)
