After months away from New Japan Pro Wrestling, Will Ospreay made an appearance at Resurgence and declared himself “the real champion”.

Ospreay appeared at The Torch at The L.A. Memorial Coliseum unadvertised to state that he has been medically cleared and won’t be competing in the G-1 Climax that begins next month.

Ospreay said he isn’t returning to Japan because he broke his neck for NJPW and they stripped him of the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.

He revealed the championship belt and declared himself the “real champion” calling Shingo Takagi “the fake champion” with an interim version.

It sets up Ospreay as the main player for NJPW Strong where he stated he will be competing and defending the title against anyone.

The segment ended with Ospreay insulting the L.A. Dojo and Katsuyori Shibata and was confronted by TJP, Karl Fredericks, and Clark Connors before exiting through the crowd.

Ospreay has not wrestled since May where he was defeated by Takagi at Wrestling Dontaku and revealed a neck injury after the match, which led to the belt being vacated.
