AEW Dynamite notes: CM Punk’s reaction to ‘Yes’ chants, FTR to return, Dark Order

CM Punk teased the arrival of Bryan Danielson, FTR returning to the ring next week and there's descension in the ranks of Dark Order

To promote his match against Darby Allin at All Out, there was an interview segment with CM Punk that Tony Schiavone hosted. ‘Yes’ chants broke out and Punk stated that-that is somebody else’s shtick and the fans might need to be a bit more patient. Punk also gave a shoutout to AJ Lee to close.

FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) are returning to the ring next week. They were last in action at AEW Fight For The Fallen against Santana and Ortiz. That bout came to an end once Wheeler’s arm got caught in a hook on the ring post. The match was immediately stopped and Wheeler was taken to the back. In their vignette, Harwood said Wheeler is dealing with nerve damage. They will take on Santana and Ortiz on 9/1.

There is dissension among the ranks of Dark Order. Alex Reynolds and Evil Uno got into a back and forth and John Silver walked off along with Reynolds.

In the main event of the show, Malakai Black made quick work of Brock Anderson. Post-match, Arn Anderson was hit with a ‘Black Mass’. The Nightmare Family’s Lee Johnson came down to the ring and Malakai exited.

Here are the matches announced for the 9/1 Dynamite at the NOW Arena in Illinois:

  • Brian Cage vs. Powerhouse Hobbs (w/ Hook)
  • Orange Cassidy vs. Jack Evans (w/ Matt Hardy)
  • FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) (w/ Tully Blanchard) vs. Santana & Ortiz
  • Jim Ross’ in-ring interview with Chris Jericho
  • Tony Schiavone’s sit-down interview with MJF

During Orange Cassidy and Matt Hardy’s match, Cassidy came down across Matt’s face which led to Matt bleeding. He did finish the match.
