Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards set to meet at UFC 269

A welterweight fight between Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards is expected to be added to the UFC 269 card in December, per Ariel Helwani.

A welterweight fight between Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards is expected to be added to the UFC 269 card in December, according to reporter Ariel Helwani.

Helwani reports that the two are scheduled to meet on Saturday, December 11th in a three-round fight at the UFC 269 pay-per-view card.

Masvidal (35-15) is coming off a pair of losses to current 170-pound champion Kamaru Usman in July 2020 and the rematch this past April at UFC 261.

Edwards (19-3, 1 no-contest) has not lost a fight since he fought Usman in December 2015 and is on a stretch where he has gone 9-0 with 1 no-contest. After a no-contest against Belal Muhammad this past March, he came back with a decision win against Nate Diaz at UFC 263 in June.

In 2019, the two had a backstage altercation during the UFC Fight Night event in London, England that was caught on video.

The UFC 269 card is scheduled to be headlined by UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira defending his championship against Dustin Poirier and Amanda Nunes vs. Julianna Pena for the women’s bantamweight title. The card was also set to feature a flyweight championship rematch between Brandon Moreno and Deiveson Figueiredo but Helwani reports that the flyweight title fight is expected to be moved to Saturday, January 22nd at UFC 270.

Masvidal has made several appearances on AEW programming including for an angle with Chris Jericho, where he hit the pro wrestler with a flying knee.

Masvidal is expected to appear on AEW Rampage this Friday on TNT in the corner of Junior dos Santos & Men of the Year for their six-man tag against Jericho, Sammy Guevara & Jake Hager.
