Jorge Masvidal is off the UFC 269 card next month after a report stated the fighter has sustained an undisclosed injury.

ESPN’s Brett Okamoto reports that Masvidal will be unable to compete against Leon Edwards at UFC 269 on Saturday, December 11th in Las Vegas, according to UFC Chief Business Officer Hunter Campbell.

It is unknown if Edwards will remain on the card and fight a new opponent.

The welterweight fight was part of a loaded card for the pay-per-view, which still includes the lightweight championship fight between Charles Oliveira and Dustin Poirier along with Amanda Nunes defending the bantamweight championship against Julianna Pena.

Masvidal’s last two fights were against current welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. Masvidal was defeated by unanimous decision at UFC 251 in July 2020 and knocked out by Usman at UFC 261 this past April.

Since the second loss to Usman, Masvidal has made several appearances on AEW programming alongside Dan Lambert and American Top Team during their program with The Inner Circle. They shot a major angle where Masvidal landed his flying knee to Chris Jericho back in September.

Edwards is viewed by many as the most deserving challenger for Usman and is unbeaten in his last ten fights, although lost a decision to Usman back in December 2015.
