GCW: Evil Deeds
Friday, November 11, 2021, Knights of Columbus Hall, Detroit, MI
By: Jonathan Pine
Following their most recent show in Los Angeles which featured the historic Briscoe Brothers title win, Game Changer Wrestling returned to Detroit with Evil Deeds. This is GCW’s second show in Detroit this calendar year and they returned with an incredible lineup featuring a wide array of matches and first-time matchups.
Most notably this show featured the return of Masashi Takeda to Game Changer Wrestling. This is Takeda’s first time back to GCW since the Pandemic. Takeda was supposed to face SHLAK at Run Rickey Run but due to a brutal back injury that occurred during his match with Orin Veidt he was unable to compete. The injury occurred during GCW’s last tour of Japan; Orin scoop slammed Takeda onto a knife board but the knives were not far enough down in the styrofoam and he was slashed open. The match stopped right away and he was out of action for several months. Replacing him at Run Rickey Run was Danny Havoc, that match turned out to be his final match ever. The reason why Takeda’s return to GCW is notable in that he is the best Deathmatch Wrestler in the world, due to the fact that he sets a new standard for pain and violence within a match. Recently he became the third ever GCW Ultraviolent Champion when he defeated Drew Parker in a bloody battle in Big Japan Pro Wrestling. It hasn’t been announced yet but I would be surprised if Takeda doesn’t defend his title throughout tomorrow night’s Nick Gage Invitational.

Tag Team Match: Alex Zayne and Tony Deppen vs. Second Gear Crew (Effy and Matthew Justice
During a match on Halloween Mance Warner, unfortunately, suffered an ankle injury and was out of action for some time. He had to have immediate surgery on his ankle, tibia, and fibula. There is a GoFundMe set up to help Mance pay for his medical bills. Taking Mance’s spot tonight is fellow SGC member Effy. This is the first time Alex Zayne and Tony Deppen have teamed up together but they do have a history; Alex Zayne faced Tony Deppen in his breakout match at GCW Backyard Wrestling. The match starts off with all four men toasting with PBR in the ring to Mancer. Each man takes turns hitting dives to the outside with Zayne and Deppen eventually gaining the advantage. Effy is wearing a Mance Warner mask as he runs wild on Tony Deppen/Alex Zayne. They are doing Mance Warner tribute spots. SGC went for the Power and Glory only to get reversed, Effy was power bombed and then Zayne hit a springboard Frankensteiner onto Justice who landed right on Effy’s face. SGC hit a Doomsday blockbuster for a two count, they bail to the outside and proceed to send a bunch of tables into the ring. SGC double-stack the tables. Justice introduces a milk crate into the match. Effy hits a Rough Ryder which causes the double-stacked tables to fall. Justice double stomps Alex Zayne through the tables for the victory.

Singles Match: Gringo Loco vs. ASF
Gringo Loco is incredibly talented, he is insanely fluid in the ring, and is a perfect base for all of the highfliers on the roster. During the scramble match that Thunder Rosa was a part of, she had a somewhat sloppy sequence, but then she linked up with Gringo Loco and she brought the house down. The match starts off fast with both men showcasing their athletic abilities as we transition into more Lucha spots, which elicits a ‘Lucha’ chant from the crowd. This is the most vocal I’ve heard Gringo during a match; it’s nice seeing him in singles action so he can showcase more of his personality than what comes through during the scramble matches. Gringo hits a top rope spinning powerbomb for only a 2 count. They head back up to the top rope this time with ASF hitting a ‘rana for a two count. Gringo hits an avalanche falcon arrow for the three-count.

Tag Team Match: Atticus Cogar and Eddy Only vs. Jordan Oliver and Nick Wayne
At GCW War Ready Jordan Oliver and Nick Wayne faced off in a first-time matchup. The match was going smoothly until Atticus Cogar made his presence felt, running in and attacking both men. Atticus retrieved a barbed wire-wrapped chair and planted Oliver on top with the headlock driver, eventually leading to Atticus delivering the skewers into Jordan Oliver’s head. This attack came after GCW’s The Aftermath when Atticus skewered Nick Wayne. Following the match, at GCW War Ready a promo was posted online that featured Jordan Oliver and Nick Wayne joining forces to challenge Atticus Cogar and another member of 440H! The talent in the ring for this match is unmatched by any other promotion, and these men are the building blocks that will carry GCW into the future long after Nick Gage is retired. Eddy Only works over both Oliver and Wayne for most of the beginning of the match. Oliver and Wayne run wild on 44OH hitting various dives and a stereo Tope Suicida. Oliver and Wayne isolate Cogar perching him on the top rope, Atticus fires back hitting Nick Wayne with an air raid crash for 2. Oliver and Wayne go for a stereo superkick onto Atticus only for Greg Iron to interfere. They beat down Oliver and Cogar hits a double stomp onto the back of Oliver’s knee as GCW officials help Oliver to the back. Nick Wayne fires himself up and goes back into the ring. 4-1 situation, Wayne low bridges Iron, ducks a rushing Eric Ryan and proceeds to dropkick and such. Wayne takes too long when setting up for a top rope. Atticus takes advantage and hits the headlock driver for the victory. This was a fun match, kind of sloppy at times, a great babyface showcase for Nick Wayne.

Singles Match: Chelsea Green vs. Allie Katch
“She could’ve been one of us, she could’ve been an Outlaw, she could’ve been a degenerate, I’ve seen what she does, I’ve seen what she’s capable of, she used to be a mess”- Allie Katch
These two have traded barbs online with Chelsea coining a new nickname for Katch in ‘Allie Rat.’ Chelsea takes the mic from Emil J and is met with ‘Shut the Fuck Up’ chant. She goes on to plead with the crowd that “I’m not my fiance, please give me a chance.” She tells the crowd that she broke her arm again and that she can’t wrestle tonight. By this point, she has completely turned the crowd. She says that she and Allie Katch worked it out in the back, they’ll do a free picture and autograph signing after the show to make up for the lack of match. Allie Katch takes the mic and is about to speak when Chelsea hits her with the cast. Chelsea proceeds to beat down Allie Katch, throwing her into the turnbuckles and trapping her in various submission moves. Chelsea bails outside the ring after Allie got in a flurry of offense and grabs a staple gun; Chelsea teased stapling a Cardona 8×10 to Katch’s face. Katch got the staple gun and proceeded to staple the 8×10 to Chelsea’s head. Chelsea takes the fan’s chair and throws it into the ring teasing a curb stomp onto the chair. Both women trade offense until Allie Katch catches Chelsea Green, she grabs the cast and puts Chelsea in a crossface with the cast for the victory. This was a fun match, Chelsea is such a great heel and obviously a great wrestler because she was trained by Lance Storm.

Scramble Match: Yoya vs. Leon Ruff vs. Brayden Lee vs. Chase Burnett vs. Cole Radrick vs. Spyder Nate Webb
Leon Ruff made his Game Changer Wrestling debut during the scramble match tonight. Leon first appeared on NXT in 2019 as an enhancement talent, he worked his way up the roster, eventually scoring the upset victory over Johnny Gargano to win the NXT North American Championship in November 2020. This marks his first appearance since he was released from his WWE contract on August 6, 2021. Having stopped watching NXT during the spring of 2020, I haven’t really seen much of Leon Ruff and I am excited to see what he can contribute to GCW. Promo package plays before the match with Leon Ruff talking about how excited he is to be making his GCW debut in his hometown of Detroit. Leon gets a hero’s welcome from his hometown, only to be outdone once Teenage Dirtbag plays and the living legend Spyder Nate Webb enters, he is one of the nicest people you could meet. Nate Webb continues to walk around the ring, on each side, each competitor attacks Nate only for Nate to easily throw them off. The ring is clear and Wheatus is still playing. Phenomenal entrance. The match continues with Yoya and Burnett pair off first displaying incredible offense. Leon takes charge of the match showing off his evasiveness. Cole Radrick grabs Leon Ruff and proceeds to light up his chest with chops. All of the competitors go for pinfalls only getting two counts, a very fun sequence. Brayden Lee goes coast to coast on Radrick and Ruff. Nate Webb hits Soylent Green on Yoya. Leon Ruff hits a backflip DDT on Chase Burnett for the victory.

Singles Match: Alex Shelley vs. Matt Cardona
Matt Cardona vs. GCW has been one of the best storylines all year, every party involved is playing their roles perfectly, eliciting the right reactions from fans and media alike. Ever since this show has been announced Cardona has been running with the fact that he doesn’t do B shows. This has led to extremely entertaining exchanges on Twitter between Cardona and GCW. Matt Cardona posted the following as a ‘message’ to the GCW locker room:
“As GCW Superstars, you are the company’s most visual representation. As such, the company expects you to dress appropriately and maintain a professional image at all times. (GCW events, airports, appearances etc) Items including shorts, flip flops and ripped/shredded shirts do not constitute professional attire. Please use your best judgment to dress professionally.
Thank you, Matt Cardona”
Cardona continued his online feud with Effy as he chose to dress up as Daddy for Halloween this year; on the other hand, Chelsea Green dressed up as Deathmatch Matt Cardona complete with the bloodstained ring gear.
I’ve always been enamored with Alex Shelley ever since his Paparazzi productions skits in TNA. Along with reDRagon, and the American Wolves, The Motorcity Machine Guns were by far my favorite tag team of the 2000’s/2010’s. During study hall in High School, I used to seek out as many MCMG matches as possible to watch both in school and when I got home.
Cardona walks out wearing an Effy-type jacket and a ‘Get the Effy Out” t-shirt. Cardona grabs the mic from Emil and asks “is this microphone even going to work” which is a valid question because it’s been cutting in and out all night. Cardona says that Detroit isn’t a B town, it’s a Fucking F town. The crowd chants go home at Cardona. The mic keeps cutting in and out, further angering Cardona. Cardona recites his own version of Eminem’s Lose Yourself. Alex Shelley comes out to a massive reaction from the sold-out crowd. Cardona has the advantage to start off the match, Shelley catches him with a dropkick sending Cardona to the floor. Cardona demands the mic.
“Alex Shelley you are fucking good, I take everything I said about you back” Cardona just wants to shake hands, lay down for Shelley just to end the match, Cardona extends his hand and gets slapped by Shelley as he goes on the attack doing various Mick Foley moves. Cardona takes a sip of a beer and says this isn’t Pabst and spits it in Shelley’s face.
Cardona hits the ref with the Internet Championship, Shelley ends up DDTing Cardona and getting the visual pinfall. GCW official runs in to count the pin but is pulled out of the ring by Chelsea Green. Cardona low blows Shelley and Chelsea is about to hit Shelley with the Internet Championship when Allie Katch runs out and eats a Closeline from Cardona. Effy saves the day brawling with Cardona and Green only for them to get the advantage, Cardona is holding Effy for Chelsea to hit with the Internet Championship but he ducks, Chelsea hits Cardona leading to Effy hitting a Rough Ryder on Chelsea Green and he also hits one to Cardona. Shelley hits Sister Abigail for the victory.
This was an extremely intriguing first-time matchup between these two tenured veterans, each man played to their strengths which led to a very fun match. Amazing cameo by Effy and Allie Katch.
Alex Shelley def. Matt Cardona
The crowd erupts as bundles of light tubes are brought to the ring for our next match.
Co-Main Event: DeathMatch: Rina Yamashita vs. Charli Evans
Both of these women are making their much-anticipated GCW debuts. Charli Evans did a run-in during the main event of the last JCW show in Atlantic City in a match between Charlie Manson and her boyfriend Everett Connors. GCW and JCW management set up a surprise meeting between Charli Evans and Everett Connors. They had never met before and their relationship was solely based online. An incredible video package that was released this week captures the true magic of Charli’s story. Recapping the video package won’t do justice to the emotions they captured and the truly special moment between these two. I recommend everyone take the 4:00 minutes to watch this package. This is why wrestling is awesome.
“I’m Charli Evans, I’m here to meet my boyfriend Everett Connors for the first time. I packed my life up, got on a plane in Sydney, and now I’m here. Actually, I saw him wrestle Joey Janela at Fight Forever and was like ‘who the fuck is this’ and I tweeted at him that I wanted to marry him and now I’m probably going to”- Charli Evans
“Charli Evans, that’s my girl, that’s my girl, I love her. She tweeted at me and I DMed her, February 21st, I still remember the date and I said ‘Hey I think you’re cool, let’s be friends’, and then every day after that we’ve talked. My hands are sweaty right now just talking about her, my heart is racing.”- Everett Connors
Rina Yamashita is also making her debut tonight for GCW coming to the ring tonight wearing an elephant mask and carrying a light tube fan. This is my first time seeing either of these women wrestle before so I have no idea what to expect from them in a Deathmatch. Rina breaks the first tube, Rina passes a tube to Charli and she breaks it. They proceed to have a light tube exchange with Charli getting the advantage as she carves up Rina’s forehead with a broken tube. Rina is leaking from her forehead, bleeding heavily into her eye as she regains control of Charli. Rina stacks tubes into the center of the ring and tries to go for a brainbuster but Charli reverses it catching Rina with a handful of forearms, eventually suplexing her onto the pile of tubes. This match has been fantastic thus far, both ladies are destroying each other. Charli hits a stiff clothesline sending Rina into a bunch of broken glass for a two count. Rina brings the light tube fan, breaking it successfully over Charli Evans’s head for a two count. The crowd is going crazy as Rina stacks a giant pile of tubes into the center of the ring, Rina hits a monstrous Crucifix bomb onto the pile of tubes for the victory. This was an incredibly fun match with both women absolutely destroying one another. I hope we see even more of Charli Evans in GCW.

Main Event: Deathmatch Tag Team Match: G-Raver and Jimmy Lloyd vs. Alex Colon and GCW Ultraviolent Champion Masashi Takeda
Originally this was supposed to be Neil Diamond Cutter and Jeff King vs. Alex Colon and Masashi Takeda but Neil Diamond Cutter has a head infection and was held out of competition tonight. No word on why Jeff King couldn’t make it. This match is even better now that G-Raver and Jimmy Lloyd are in the mix as they have both had Deathmatch of the year contenders. Alex Colon and Masashi Takeda are familiar foes, having gone head to head in a brutal match in Japan during GCW’s last tour of Japan. Both of these men can make the claim that they are the Best in the World and not many people would argue otherwise. They have hung light tubes on two sides of the ring and there are multiple panes of glass in the corner. I don’t know why Kevin Gill is pretending like it’s a surprise that Jimmy Lloyd and G-Raver were teaming up, GCW announced it on their own Instagram. Both teams tease throwing the other into the tubes with Takeda and Colon getting the advantage. The crowd is eating up everything Takeda and Colon are doing. Takeda sets G-Raver up in the corner with tubes on his chest as he hits him with a pair of running knees for a two count, as Colon and Takeda take further advantage over G-Raver. Lloyd and Raver team up on Takeda as Takeda regains the advantage and starts carving them with giant scissors. Takeda set Jimmy Lloyd underneath a pane of glass that goes for a Swanton but the pane doesn’t break; Takeda got pissed and cannonballed himself through the glass. On the other end of the venue, G-Raver climbed to the ceiling and put Colon through a table. Takeda hits a running knee on Jimmy Lloyd breaking the tubes for a two count. G-Raver is on the top rope when Alex Colon throws a bundle of tubes at him, Takeda captures Raver and they hit an assisted Razor’s Edge onto Raver for the victory.
Masashi Takeda and Alex Colon def. Jimmy Lloyd and G-Raver
Post Match: Alex Colon grabs the GCW Ultraviolent Title and Takeda is swiping at him trying to get his title back. The two start shoving and doing a tug of war of sorts with the belt. They pointed at each other as the show goes off the air.
A crazy main event that punctuated a very fun night of action for GCW.
