Harwood and Wheeler recall their conversation with Tony Khan about their new theme.

The reigning AAA World Tag Team Champions FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) successfully defended their titles over the weekend at Triplemania Regia against The Lucha Brothers (Penta El Zero M & Rey Fenix).

Several months ago, Harwood and Wheeler took on a new theme song which is a tribute to their favorite era of tag team wrestling. They guest appeared on ‘Casual Conversations with The Classic’ and said AEW President Tony Khan called them one night and alerted them that they had new music on the way. Wheeler said Khan started “jamming out” the first time he played the song for them.

Wheeler: Dude, we didn’t [come up with the new theme]. That was Tony [Khan]. Like, he texted us real late one night and he was like, ‘Hey guys. I’m working on a new theme for you, I’m so excited. I can’t wait for you to hear it’ and like that was kind of it. We didn’t know we were gonna be changing themes or anything. It was just kind of he had the idea and we’re like, ‘All right, that’s cool. Let’s see what he has in mind’ and he calls us into his office and he hits the play button on his phone and he starts jamming out to it and we’re like — I never pictured myself walking out to anything other than the styles that we walk out to. But I’m like, ‘Okay. How do I walk out to this? I love the theme but how do I come out to this?’ And now when I hear it, I just walk out and I just feel it and I love it because it changes the whole vibe and everybody just kind of goes along with it and walking out to it, you see both of us are kind of having fun, Dax [Harwood] doing the short arm with little children and just, I love it dude.

Owen Hart became a topic of conversation during the interview and Harwood said he’s hoping that both he and Cash are a part of the AEW Owen Hart Cup.

Harwood: Obviously we want to be in the [Owen Hart Cup] tournament and I hope and pray that Tony [Khan] puts us in there but if he doesn’t, I’m just as proud to work for AEW just because he’s doing something like this.

Tony Khan confirmed that more details concerning the Owen Hart Cup are going to be revealed at ‘Winter Is Coming’ on December 15th. Currently scheduled for that show is Bryan Danielson challenging Hangman Adam Page for the AEW World Championship.
