Jon Jones has reached a plea agreement and his domestic violence charge stemming from a September arrest has been dismissed.
TMZ Sports reports that the former UFC light heavyweight champion has pleaded “nolo contendere” (accepting the conviction without admitting guilt) to a misdemeanor charge of destroying property with damage assessed between $25-250. His misdemeanor count for domestic violence has been dropped, per the court records in Nevada.
Jones was arrested in September while in Las Vegas for the UFC Hall of Fame ceremony after officers were called to Caesars Palace on the morning of September 24th.
When confronted by the officers, Jones allegedly smashed his head into the officer’s vehicle. Jones’ fiancé was at the hotel and they saw bloodstains on her sweatshirt and from her lip. His fiancé told the police that Jones had pulled her hair a little but did not hit her and that her lips were dry. She declined to fill out a voluntary statement or to be recorded by officers while also declining a protective order against Jones.
MMA Fighting adds that the misdemeanor sentences include Jones staying out of trouble, paying $750 in restitution to the victim of the property damage, and attending anger management counseling.
Following the arrest, Jones was informed by coach Mike Winkeljohn that he was not welcome to train at the Jackson Wink Academy in Albuquerque until getting his life in order. Jones has stated he will not return to the gym over Winkeljohn’s decision.
Jones last fought in February 2020, defeating Dominick Reyes by unanimous decision at UFC 247. Jones later vacated the 205-pound title with his intentions to move up to the heavyweight division.
After parting ways with First Round Management, Jones has been working with former Golden Boy executive Richard Schaefer as his advisor.
