Bryan Danielson is the latest inductee that Ring of Honor has announced for its Hall of Fame.
The former ROH champion joins The Briscoe Brothers as part of the inaugural class that coincides with the promotion’s twentieth anniversary this month.
Danielson wrestled in the main event of Ring of Honor’s first show in February 2002 against Low Ki and Christopher Daniels.
He was a staple for the promotion and became the ROH world champion in September 2005 after beating James Gibson at Glory by Honor IV.
From his book that was released in 2016:
My Ring of Honor World Championship win has always ranked very high on my list of accomplishments. They chose me to be the man, and that hasn’t happened very often in my career. It was one of the few times when it was decided that I was going to be given the ball and get pushed into the top spot to carry the promotion.
His fifteen-month title reign featured numerous classic matches and one of the most celebrated title runs in the promotion’s history until he lost the title to Homicide at Final Battle in December 2006.
Danielson was the final ROH Pure champion during its first incarnation. While ROH champion, he unified the two championships when he defeated Nigel McGuinness in August 2006 in a classic match in Liverpool, England.
Danielson held a stint as the head trainer at the promotion’s school in 2006 where he uprooted himself from Aberdeen, Washington, and moved to Philadelphia.
Danielson left the company in September 2009 when he signed with WWE.
ROH will be airing a career retrospective on Danielson this weekend on their syndicated program along with a YouTube special that premieres next Monday at 9 a.m. ET.
The Hall of Fame edition of ROH TV will air over the weekend of March 5th.
