Athena speaks about some of the highlights from her NXT run.

Following a six-year run with the WWE, Athena, formerly known as ‘Ember Moon’ is back on the independent scene and her return match is taking place at Warrior Wrestling 19 against Thunder Rosa for the promotion’s Women’s Title.

Ahead of the match, Athena sat down with Highspots Wrestling Network and during the livestream, she was asked about moments from her run[s] with the NXT brand. She looks back fondly on her tag team with Shotzi. The former NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions established a close friendship and Athena said that period with Shotzi is filled with some of her happiest moments.

I feel like my time with Shotzi was probably like just some of the happiest moments I’ve ever been [a part of] because she’s a prankster like me. I remember when she took over the NXT Instagram, I just like would — we just had fun. We were like two little kids, amongst, I don’t know, adults. Just like, ‘Oh, oh, you know what’d be cool? We should go and prank this person. You know what’d be cool? If we do this.’ We just had a good vibe and and we immediately bonded because of our love of Pumpkinhead baby, if you know who Pumpkinhead is.

Athena is a former NXT Women’s Champion and she won the title at TakeOver: WarGames in 2017. Along with that, one of the highlights from her first go-around with NXT was hearing the roar of the crowd for her match with Asuka at TakeOver: Brooklyn III.

I think it [favorite NXT moments] had to be hearing the crowd when Asuka and I were in the ring for Brooklyn III TakeOver. Just right before the match started, I remember not being able to think for myself because it was so loud or the moment I got to win the title because my parents were there. That’s very near and dear to my heart there.

The upcoming bout with Thunder Rosa is going to be Athena’s first sanctioned match since the October 5th episode of NXT 2.0, during which she took on current NXT Women’s Champion Mandy Rose.

Rose is scheduled to defend the title against Kay Lee Ray on the 2/8 edition of NXT TV.
