The WWE Hall of Famer discusses her two Royal Rumble appearances.

Next Saturday in Saudi Arabia, WWE is hosting their Elimination Chamber event and at the show, Lita is going to be challenging Becky Lynch for the Raw Women’s Championship. The upcoming bout is Lita’s first WWE Women’s Title match since 2006.

The Hall of Famer made the media rounds to promote the match and she spoke to WWE Deutschland’s Sebastian Hackl. Lita has competed in two out of the five women’s Royal Rumble matches and while reflecting on the first, she mentioned that she was contacted for it one day before the match happened. Lita was stressed and nervous about it but felt that she could not miss the opportunity.

The first Royal Rumble match that I was in which is the first one, physically being in there, very stressful because I was called just the day before to be in it. So I wasn’t training and then when I got there because they were like, ‘Oh, you can work out, you know, just like in the ring, get used to things again for the day’ and then when I got there, they’re like, ‘Well actually, we decided we wanna clear you, make sure your neck’s okay and everything’ which that part is good. But I didn’t touch the ring until I touched the ring live. So, I was nervous in a way I — not good nervous, but like bad nervous because I was like, ‘Oh my gosh. I’m reacquainting myself with this ring live in front of the people,’ but, it was such an opportunity because I was so — I had heard rumblings if you will about their being a female Royal Rumble match for years, but I’m the type of person where I’m like, ‘Just say it’s not gonna happen so you can be pleasantly surprised’ or, ‘Brace for the worst but hope for the best,’ right? So when it was a reality, I was very excited about it so I was like, ‘I can’t miss this opportunity. I want to be there, I wanna be a part of it’ but the in-ring part which fortunately for me was very short, that time. Being with all those women and being in Gorilla Position as everybody was counting, we would count down together and just cheer for whoever was next to go out. The unity that I felt with all these women across generations was something I will never forget. Like that was really beautiful.

When she returned to WWE ahead of the 2022 Royal Rumble, she got physical with SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair. Lita shared in another media appearance that the offer to face Becky Lynch was presented to her when she went backstage after being eliminated from the Rumble.

She shared that she initially thought they were going to offer her the match against Charlotte. Lita would still like to have that match.

I was really surprised honestly because when they asked me if I wanted to challenge Becky [Lynch], I was like, ‘Yeah,’ but I thought when they were like, ‘Would you like to challenge…’ I thought for sure that the name after that was gonna be Charlotte [Flair] because you know, we had-had some interaction before the Rumble and then in the Rumble. So I thought that that’s where they were going with that. So yeah, I am not opposed to knocking her down a peg or two. She gets very high on that high horse and she’s good, she’s good. She should have a high horse but she gets up there and gets a little proud of herself sometimes so I’d like to ground her out.
