** Interview recorded prior to the announcement of Cody’s AEW departure **
Aubrey Edwards and Tony Schiavone welcomed Cody Rhodes and Amanda Huber onto the latest episode of AEW Unrestricted. They dove into the Community Outreach program that AEW has established and discussed the inner workings of it and past projects.
As the conversation moved along, Rhodes told the story of there being a year-one AEW talent who specifically told him that they did not want Edwards refereeing their matches. Fast forward to present day and that talent requests Edwards to be the official for their matches.
Rhodes: I’m not gonna name names but, I don’t think [they’ll be able] to read between the lines so I think this is pretty safe. There was a wrestler in year one of All Elite Wrestling who privately told me, ‘I don’t want Aubrey in my matches because I just — I wouldn’t — she’s, you know’ and he’s really trying to say, ‘She’s not a man. Why would I –’ you know? He was leaning that way. Fast forward to three years later, that individual is requesting, he’s requesting Aubrey for the matches. Yeah, to Amanda [Huber’s] point so, kudos to all involved. I like all our refs, you know? I like ‘em all, but kudos to all involved.
While the TBS Championship tournament was coming together, Cody would prank the women’s division by saying he could not believe that AEW was bringing in an outside talent to compete in the tournament. Rhodes would then pull out a picture of his daughter in reference to that talent.
Huber: My favorite was when they were doing the brackets for the [TBS Championship] tournament and Cody [Rhodes] would just walk up and be like, ‘Did you hear about this new chick they’re bringing in? Like, I can’t believe that they’d do this,’ every time and he’d be like — everybody all riled up and like, ‘Who’s he bringing in? What now?’ And [it’s] a picture of Libby [Cody’s daughter and I go], ‘Dammit!’
Brandi was present on Dynamite several weeks ago and her segment resulted in a pull-apart brawl with Paige VanZant.
