Minnesota Gophers wrestling coach speaks on Gable Steveson.

This past March, current WWE talent Gable Steveson captured his second NCAA Championship. After his bout, Steveson placed his wrestling shoes on the mat. He previously stated that he would be focusing on his duties with WWE after the Championships.

Minnesota news outlet ‘Pioneer Press’ caught up with Minnesota Gophers wrestling coach Brandon Eggum to chat about Steveson. He told the publication that Steveson is interested in returning to the wrestling team. The details and conversations have not gone far, but Steveson is under a N.I.L. (name, image, likeness) deal with WWE and has one year of NCAA eligibility left although he has graduated from the university.

It would have to be something he works out with the WWE and Vince McMahon. Those details … it hasn’t gotten that far. It’s one thing if he said, ‘No way, I’m not doing it…’ But he has the eligibility, he’s capable and he has interest in doing it.

I know he would like to wrestle, and he loves competing. Really, it comes down to making that work.

Steveson appeared on both nights of WrestleMania 38 in Arlington, Texas. On night one, he was introduced by Stephanie McMahon and night two saw him get physical in the ring with Chad Gable.
