Chris DeJoseph explains his 2020 exit from WWE.

After wrapping up with Major League Wrestling, Chris DeJoseph returned to WWE in late 2019 for his second go-around with the company. In May of 2020, DeJoseph was released. He had been working as a lead writer and producer for Friday Night SmackDown.

John Bradshaw Layfield and Gerald Brisco welcomed DeJoseph onto their ‘Stories with Brisco and Bradshaw’ show and DeJoseph spoke about his most recent exit from the sports entertainment company. He explained that initially, things were going well when he was just a freelancer and would help out in certain spots for SmackDown.

When he was asked to take on more and sit in meetings along with waiting on Vince McMahon, it became tasking and he came to the conclusion that the schedule was not for him.

DeJoseph: I went back [to WWE] for eight months and it was so overwhelming to me and then, yeah, it just was not a good fit for me again. I thought maybe it could be but it was nice because at first, I was just doing some freelance shots. I would only have to go to SmackDown, just a TV, produce Roman Reigns’ stuff or you know, King Corbin stuff or whatever and then I’ll be on a plane out of there. I wouldn’t have to do anything the whole week then I could just fly back and do that and I liked that portion of it but once they had me start to do more of this stuff and be there and wait in meetings and be waiting until 3 o’clock in the morning to meet with Vince [McMahon] or something like that, I was like, this is just not — this is not it.

Elsewhere during their chat, Brisco and JBL were discussing Bruce Prichard and JBL mentioned that months ago, Prichard was ill but WWE set up a monitor near his bed so he could be a part of the writers meeting.

JBL: He [Bruce Prichard] was sick one time and I can’t remember — several months ago. They [WWE] set up a monitor by his bed so that he could… [JBL laughed]

Brisco: Almost dying man and they set up a damn monitor by his bed so he could be at the TV.

This past January, Prichard shared that he was dealing with the flu. On 6/15, he underwent surgery for a torn rotator cuff.
